The WSOP 2018 Thread

FCHDFCHD Member Posts: 3,178
Cor blimey guv, is it that time of the year already?

Well yes, and no. Of course we are still over 5 months away from the first "Shuffle Up & Deal" of the 2018 series, but the full schedule has just been released, quite a lot earlier than previous years.

Full listing to follow tomorrow, but a couple of points

78 events, 4 more than last year. This of course will enable Caesars Entertainment to claim that the 2018 series will be bigger, better and any other superlative you care to mention, than ever before.

The main is event 65, starting on 2nd July with the Series running until the last event, the $1million High Roller, starting on 15th July. I guess this means there will be more people milling round while the main reaches its later stages, rather than everyone disappearing as soon as they are knocked out and it looking very empty around the Rio while the World Championship works its way to the FInal Table.

    That makes sense.
The 1 time I had a deep-ish run in the Main the place was near-empty.
Already looking forward to your superb updates...

The million dollar one drop is back
Another 50K High Roller is added
Tag teams drop from 2 to 1
Online events rise from 3 to 4
New event include a PLO Bounty Hunter

Let's hope Sky do Viva Las Vegas again, to

    a) get that man Tikay a holiday

    b) qualify some players to follow and hopefully bring home fistfulls of dollars (and of course in our dreams a bracelet!)

One other thing, the "Seniors" tournaments have, in the past few years, always clashed with the EDC weekend in Vegas, sending room rates sky high. This year, EDC has been moved to May so it should be less expensive for the older ones amongst us if they fancy a go at the veterans bracelet events.

Well there's a few events there Tikay will be playing no doubt, and one he won't -

'New event include a PLO Bounty Hunter'

    Sacrilege!

(Worthy of an exclamation mark @Tikay10 ?

    Can't wait.

Great to see the schedule announced nice and early. People can hopefully make plans a little bit easier this year.

Don't mind seeing the number of tag team events dropping. Mixing poker with 'teams' doesn't really do it for me.

Good to see the number of online events rising. If the WSOP wanted to increase numbers then making more use of 'the internet' is probably a good way to go. Speaking of which...

In future WSOPs I would love to see an online flight added for the main event about a week before the land based flights. This would give anyone making it to 2 day via the online route over a week to get over to Vegas (potentially longer if they jigged the day 2 flights around). Would give way more people the chance to take part, might encourage more sites to run WSOP based promos and it would give the Main Event numbers a real boost.

Hopefully Tikay is over doing his usual VLV stuff.

    Only 141 days to go!

Yeah, if anything deserves some punctuation, it's that.

The problem with that is that the WHOLE REASON the WSOP exists in Las Vegas is to sell Hotel Rooms. Nothing else - that's it.

So it might well happen, but essentially, Caesars - who own around 45% of ALL hotel rooms in Vegas* - are in the business of selling hotel rooms, & filling their eateries, so getting folks to come to Vegas to play "live" is what it's all about.

    * Caesars own The Rio, Ballys, Horseshoe, Linq, Paris, Planet Hollywood etc.

One week to go. I'm all set for another marathon series of posts, but with a short "blip" quite early on in the Series. I'm out of the country from 8th-10th June and I won't have my laptop with me so I won't be posting for three days. Hopefully someone can pick up the slack and at least post the names of the bracelet winners and identify any deep runs by Brits.

Roll on the Casino Employees' event next Wednesday night....

    Hi Tikay - I'm there June 21st - July 2nd and will play a range of small to mid buy in WSOP tournaments as follows;

The Giant (Event 6D) - $365 buy in (this has multiple day 1s - allowing myself 2 bullets) - last year’s winner scooped $292,000

Monster Stack (Event 48A) - $1500 buy in (freezeout) – last year’s winner took home just over a million bucks!

Depending on success in above 2 that I’m definitely playing – I could also look at playing the 1k bounty (Event59) or the $888 ‘crazy eights’ (Event 62B) – winners here yield around 900k and 888k respectively

I'm staying at Gold Coast next to Rio but hopefully can get to stop by the Sky Event too though not as a qualifier :(

Likewise - I will look to play Monster on 23rd then as Sky event is at Venetian on 24th at 2pm yes? I'd be ok getting in to say high without qualifying? I may be a bit dishevelled as hopefully make it through end of day 1 in Monster and then say up for England v Panama in early hours of 24th. I'd suggest we set up a footy meet up but presumably those playing the Sky Event on 24th will be resting up and thus missing game? England v Panama - a good game to get a 'hat'-trick - I'm there all week ;-)

Yes, SPT Las Vegas will be 2pm at Venetian.

You are more than welcome to pop in & say Hi to all & sundry, yes.

Keep in touch, & I can sort an invite for you to the Welcome Party for the qualifiers too if you wish.

Perfect and most kind on the latter - yes will do so. I've also just seen there's still one last way to qualify too via a freeroll - am playing live most of this week but will get a bit of multitasking done to get enough points

    Thanks again,

And.... cards are in the air. Event 1 has started and Event 2 will start (I almost mixed my metaphors and said it will "Kick-off") in just under 4 hours.

    30/05/18 Event 1 - $565 Casino Employees NLH, 2 Day Event, single re-entry
30/05/18 Event 2 - $10K NLH Super Turbo Bounty, 1 Day Event, $3000 bounty per player

    WSOP 1 - $565 Casino Employee's NLH, Day 1 of 2, 566 entrants
Another large drop in entries (down 14% on top of last years 5% drop) in the traditional curtain-raiser, the casino employee's event.

13 players remain at the end of Day 1, none of whom have names that ring a bell although second placed Jordan Hufty is such a wonderful name I'll remember it in the future!

For the record, Jodie Sanders (from California) leads ahead of Hufty and Won Kim.

No surprise that there was no British cashes, in fact Italian Simone Ricci was the only European in the money, although I like to feel that 75th placed Sheyla Cornish has some Cornish ancestry!

    Event 2 - $10K Super Turbo Bounty NLH, Day 1 of 1, 243 entrants
Play is still ongoing with 3 players left, Elio Fox having 7m chips, Paul Volpe nearly 3m and Adam Adler 2m.

Former ME winner Joe Cada bowed out in 9th, and we had the first two British cashes of the Series, Talal Shakerchi finishing 17th for $14300 and Ben Heath 33rd for $10192, exlcuding any bounties they may have taken.

    To Start Today
    Event 3 - $3K Shootout NL, 3 Day Event
    Event 4 - $1500 Omaha Hi-Low 8 or better, 3 Day Event
