Poker on Xmas Day?

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 172,247

Who plans to play poker on Xmas Day?

I was chatting with Sky James the other day, & he reminded me that Xmas Day last year the site was heaving, very good figures indeed.

I guess by the time the evening arrives, folks have eaten enough, & of course the Xmas TV is dire, so they play a little poker.

So, are you playing poker on Xmas Day, & if so, how did you get a pass?

As you may know, I don't do Xmas, so I'll be looking for a bit of poker action. Then, from around 11.30pm, I'll be watching the Test Match from Melbourne. Best TV all Xmas, that.

Same on Boxing Day, watching sport all day & playing some poker, then watch Day 2 of the Test.

Gill arrives the next day, & UKOPS starts. I do the UKOPS write-ups all morning, then take Gill out somewhere, so that'll be no more poker until the New Year.

I'm rather hoping that lag thing goes away. Fielding complaints about that all Christmas is not exactly my idea of fun. Never mind, it is what it is.

"If so, how did you get a pass?"

I always find marrying someone with the same hobby as you helps with that little dilemma ;-)

We won't be playing on Christmas Day this year, due to non-poker playing members of the family, but we will be ready on 27th for UKOPS!

Merry Christmas everyone. May we all have a happy and peaceful 2018.

One final comment ... Christmas isn't a lovely time of year for everyone. If you think a friend or family member or neighbour is alone and struggling then pick up the phone. It may be the greatest gift you ever make.

    Best wishes. N

We have over the last few years made Christmas a day purely for the 4 of us (Lisa and the kids) we don't visit anyone, we don't go out, we do all the family stuff, visitors, visiting, Xmas dinner etc etc on Boxing day.

Generally we open presents (thankfully each year it gets a tad later as the kids get older, these 5.30am starts were a pain). watch some TV, play any new board/video games, argue over rules and answers, usually some wii (guitar hero etc that we can all do), argue again, eat takeaway (Indian and Chinese both open) and generally veg out, so I am fairly certain at some point I will flick on the laptop :)

This is pretty much exactly what I'll be doing. Got the house all to myself for a change.

Food, sport, betting and poker. It's going to be fantastic.

I’ve never played a hand of poker on Christmas Day. Has just always felt wrong for some reason.

I wear the trousers in my house, she said I couldn't play. So I told her straight, 'listen woman, I am in charge around here and I will play poker when I want, so shut up and get back in the kitchen!'
    That told her...

... might see you on the 27th, if my broken fingers heal enough by then.

I agree with jac just doesn't feel right, plus by xmas evening I will probably be 6 - 7 drinks in so wouldn't be the smartest option imo 😉

Last year my Mum went (Xmas) crackers when I moved the Cranberry sauce to make way for mr laptop and proceeded to load up 20 tables.

    Merry Xmas everyone x

I have to agree with mum there James. You really should be playing far more tables than that!

I also agree with Jac and ads, that playing Christmas day just sounds wrong.
    Come Christmas night though......

My decision to play on Xmas day is usually made on the day and is purely dependent on my tolerance level with the Mother in Law. Strong chance I'll be playing come early evening.
