But she is not "thick". She has a History Degree from Cambridge.
She isn't the first person to say something incredibly stupid. And she won't be the last. At least she had the decency to apologise for saying something that stupid.

Any time she makes a mistake, it is amplified out of all proportion to similar mistakes made by anyone else. As an example, the recent elementary Maths errors made by the LibDems you mentioned recently. She receives far more abuse than any other MP.
She is portrayed unfairly. You can often see the calibre of a person by how well-liked they are by people who actually know them. So-for example-2 ex-Tory MPs, Jonathan Aitken and Michael Portillo-are friends. The former was Godfather to her son.
She has never been afraid to speak out in relation to causes she believes in. 2 recent examples are her opposition to National Identity Cards, and her belief that NATO are also to blame for stoking up tensions in Ukraine, and that Press coverage is weighted too heavily in favour of Ukraine.

Perhaps she wasn't paying attention whilst studying history.
I can understand her apology if she said these things in an off the cuff live interview, but she actually wrote them down.

Do you think only an idiot could believe that?
It's very sad the abuse she repeatedly gets. She must feel mortified this evening after that mistake, for which she quickly & fully apologised.
Whatever the rights & wrongs & political differences, she's a well-meaning individual & a decent person imo.
