Nostalgia isn't what it used to be

Phantom66Phantom66 Member Posts: 5,542
I must be getting old now, because I can fit 2 generations of nostalgia in my life.

These videos takes me back to...

1. My childhood, kids TV Chigley, Trumpton, Camberwick Green. Playing Subbuteo.

2. The music takes me back to my late teens/early twenties. Half man Half Biscuit. Such fantastic lyrics, my local rival club adopted "Brian Moore's head looks uncannily like the London Planetarium" as their fanzine.

Do these trigger any memories for you?

What makes you nostalgic?

    Loved Subbuteo,
Remember spending days painting up teams only for one of my clumsy pals to break one with an elbow......
Here are some fine examples, particularly love Alan Roughs hair

subbuteo was amazing , i had the wee stadium and floodlights , my men used to get squashed and broken often and they were pretty expensive to buy a new team! i always found it was the set up rather than actually playing the game that was more fun.

    Subbuteo was the nuts.

Used to play it all the time, great memories, especially of weekends playing with my cousins.

I had a home nations edition. The home nations used to be a big thing, before the premiership and satellite tv and a broken crossbar.

I was waiting for a west ham kit, but after a few visits to the toy shop and it not being in my dad convinced me to buy a villa kit (I wasn't happy). The neckline was all wrong.

I didnt have a scalextric either, wanted one but my parents bought a set called TCR (Total Control Racing) instead. It sounded good as the cars were not in slots and could change lanes. However that meant there were barriers on corners and they couldn't drive off the track. The end result was zero skill and a totally boring game

It still didnt work sometimes due to a dodgy transformer.

A few years back I saw a subbuteo set in my local supermarket for a few quid so I bought it. I tried to get my kids interested but they are the FIFA generation and so I had no chance. Their loss. I took it into work and we had a cup competition in the lunch breaks and raised a few quid for charity. Amazing how competitive it was though.

I did finally get that west ham kit, found an online supplier still making them zeugo.

Confectionary always gets people in a nostalgic mood.

Most weekends my cousins and I would be given some money by our nan and we would go to the corner shop.

I always used to get one of these....

Washed down with a sickly sweet cream soda that was green and came in a plastic spaceman with a straw in his head.

You may be amazed to learn that I now have bad teeth, in fact I'd give @jac35 a run for his money.

Argh. I typed a long post about subbuteo and Total Control Racing. Edited it to put the pic in and I lost the post.

    Never mind. Cliffs....

Subbuteo is the nuts. Played an awful lot as a kid. Also got a set a few years back, no interest from the kids though. FIFA generation could not get their head around it. Took it to work though and had a great time organising a charity tournament.

Never had scalextric, got given TCR, it was shiiiittee. Great that you could change lanes, but the corners had walls so you wouldnt go off on corners which meant all the skill was gone.

It still suffered from a dodgy transformer.

Action man, with eagle eyes, that Actually move. :)

    The advert-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDakH14Nmi8

They were too expensive for my parents , I had rich mates, one friend had everything available so I had plenty of playing with all the kit.

My mum bought me an action man copy from the market, I remember thinking how the plastic was different the joints were ball and socket instead of hinged like action man.

    And these...who didnt love these.

Nice one mumsie, I had a few sets of those little plastic soldiers.

I didnt have an action man either but I had one of these

You could press down a button in his back and he would do a karate chop.
