Etiquette and running the clock down.

Etiquette and running the clock down.
I’m looking for advice on the correct etiquette here.
I managed to satellite into the Sunday roller for £5.50 so was delighted to get into the cash. Down to the last 9 and I’m the short stack on my table. Severely hampered by having a large stack to my left. On the other table of 5 there are three shorter stack including a very small stack. All three short stacks on that table are taking their time but the very small stack is running the clock down completely on EVERY hand.
The result was my table rattling through the hands and I’m blinding down while on the other table it’s like watching paint dry. All this at 2.30 in the morning. Needless to say not much fun for those actually wanting to play poker and get to bed. My problem was that I didn’t want to start running the clock down myself to counteract the other table as it would spoil the game but I also didn’t want to be disadvantaged compared to the other table. The money jumps were quite significant.

So, is there anything in the rules to stop this. Is it just down to good etiquette and what would you do in this spot?

Its your timer you can think about your hand as long as the timer goes down for and fold your hand. The only thing they cant do to make the timer take longer is to keep disconnecting. Then they can be reported. Its not great etiquette but might be big money for them and want the ladder. Also if they have discussed in chat, to run the clock down they can also be reported. But letting your timer down can be frustrating, but it is allowed as far as im aware.

Tbf, if I'm deep in the Roller, the last thing I want to do it get to bed :p

I'd also be running the clock down in the same spot. I hate doing it though, like you say it does the game of Poker no good in the long term. I'm just not sure how to stop anyone from doing it, aside from giving everyone two seconds to make each decision which is no good.

In that spot, I'm messaging the other table, saying "speed up, or us on the other table will slow down to mirror you..."

Other than that, the other table are free to take whatever time they like

    I'm with phil.

I get the feeling this could be one of the reasons for sky poker not having a time bank. I myself would love to see a time bank arrive onto sky but I would suggest it becomes unusable in the mid to late stages of tournaments

    This.

Idk how much you've played on Stars, but they used to have some incredibly long timebanks on there fairly recently. They've improved since, but some of the MTTs used to have 3 minutes timebank plus you got an extra 10 seconds per hour of play, so by the time you got near the bubble in something with 15-20 minute blinds, there's people with 220 or 230 seconds of timebank and they would use the whole lot to ladder to a mincash when they have 4bb.

If you had two or three people on your table doing that, you can kiss goodbye to an entire level of play, and any ideas you might have of exploiting the short stacks on or around the bubble.

The longest timebanks I can find now on there are 60 seconds plus 8-10 seconds added per hour of play, which is slightly more sensible, but you still have occasions where a single hand takes upwards of five minutes near the bubble while everyone tries to mincash. It's pretty absurd.

Timebanks do have legitimate uses, but honestly I think for tournaments, having played several sites with them, they do more harm than good. For cash there's no harm having timebanks IMO, but if you only had timebanks for cash, then everyone else would kick off because "Why do they get timebanks and not us?"

Thanks for your comments guys. I think I'll just have to harden up and exploit the rules as necessary. Thankfully I still managed to FT and outlasted all the short stacks but if I hadn't it would have left a bad taste. Really just wondered if it was viewed as bad etiquette to run the clock town every hand or smart play.

We all know a certain someone who starts to tank every hand despite being 70 places off the bubble.

All part of the game but I'm glad Sky don't have timebanks.
