The 2018 Sky Poker Tour kicked off at the Poker Lounge in the sumptuous 235 Casino, Manchester, on Friday, two opening days feeding into the final day on Sunday.

Achieving the £50,000 guarantee was never in doubt and with 364 entries a prize pool of £72,800 was up for grabs.

Friday & Saturday saw everyone having a ball in their respective day 1’s, & when Sunday arrived 105 hopefuls remained.

By early evening, and after ooh’s, ahh’s and gasps galore, we had a final 9 & it looked like this;

1. Andy Young - 960,00
2. Robert Lewis - 423,000
3. Ryan Shreeve - 348,000
4. Malcolm Speak - 1,735,000
5. Mark Waterhouse - 463,000
6. Scott Thackeray - 1,031,000
7. Steven Frew - 900,000
8. Rose Roberts - 850,000
9. Naaser Ahmed - 2,383,000

Those are in seat order, so if it helps to put faces (or backs of heads) to names, here you go;

A fascinating Final was in prospect, & here's the final countdown.

Play had barely began when Andy Young (K-10) was busted by Naaser with 5-2. 5-2? Yes, & this was to be something of a pattern, as Naaser, who has the most unconventional ranges you ever saw, refused to pass any hand containing a deuce & reaped a rich harvest.

Next to depart was Sky Poker’s Mark Waterhouse (8th) closely followed by Steven Frew.

Scott Thackeray was the next to feel the explosive power of Naaser’s eclectic starting hands when Scott’s A-J was comprehensively demolished by 9-2 on the 2-2-5 flop.

Ryan Shreeve was next to be busted by Naaser, Ryan with A-J &, almost inevitably, Naaser with 2-2. No prizes for guessing how that panned out.

4 left now, & it was the turn of Rosarie Roberts to be busted by Naaser next, Rose with the pretty J-10 suited being nowhere good enough to beat Naaser who sent down a curve-ball with K-K after all those combos containing deuces.

Robert Lewis exited in 3rd place, and it was that man Naaser again, improbably flopping a full house with 3-5 and even more improbably, Robert turning the nut straight with 6-7. No escape from that one. I suppose it depends which side of the outcome you sit, but don't you just love/hate poker when these things happen?

Heads up now, and there was no stopping Naaser, A-K v A-Q HU plays itself & of course it was Naaser who had the A-K to send the likeable Malcolm Speak to the rail & complete a thoroughly entertaining Sky Poker Tour Final Table.

Naaser collected an even £15,000 for his troubles, plus a “money can’t buy” seat at Sky Poker’s unique £30,000 Road to Manchester Live Final in March.

A word about Naaser, with whom I had the good fortune - arguably - to share Tables with on Day 1A. To say he has an unconventional game is an understatement. He's no fool though, & knows exactly where he is in a hand at every street. Great fun, too, exactly the sort of player poker needs.

Some bright spark gave him the nickname "Bad Jumper" - I've no idea why. Noel Edmonds would be proud of that beauty.

Well done Naaser.

Here's how the Final Table money was divvied up;

9th - Andy Young, £1,600

8th - Mark Waterhouse, £2,300

7th - Steven Frew, £3,150

6th - Scott Thackeray, £4,000

5th - Ryan Shreeve, £5,100

4th - Rosarie Roberts, £6,300

3rd - Robert Lewis, £8,300

2nd - Malcolm Speak, £11,000

1st - Naaser Ahmed, £15,000 + Road to Manchester Seat.

Next stop for the Sky Poker Tour will be at Alea Nottingham from 4th to 6th of May.

The Sky Poker Team look forward to seeing many of you in Nottingham in early May.

    What a fantastic weekend it was, everyone was in such good spirits and it was lovely to see friends old and new.

    I know these SPT's do keep you extremely busy Mr K, but your hard work is clearly very much appreciated by everyone, so put your feet up, for a couple of days at least and get re-charged for May, I know I for one can't wait.

    By the way I did ask a question on your live update thread, about any news on the 'passport needed' SPT, not sure whether your lack of response was tactical or you just couldn't be bothered.

    See you in May

    MOTHERRRRRRRR.

    Apologies, I never saw that question, sorry. Certainly was not "CBA".

    The answer - right now - would have to be the same though, a guarded & diplomatic swerve. News will emerge in March, I suspect, so until then.......
