We've all witnessed it, someone wins a hand on the river that they had no right to and the knocked out player first says #%#### Sky is rigged the site is #£@%** and I hope you die etc

I have seen it on 30p DYM tables, right through to the nights bigger tournaments and I usually just inwardly despair at the mentality of the people saying it and move on.

Twice I have rung Customer Services and reported someone for being way over the top to someone else on the table - once I think four of us were telling a player to stop a totally unwarranted attack on another player and they carried on for about 10 minutes before they moved.

But usually I don't say anything because I don't recognise the players name, assume they don't know better and unlikely to run into them again.

Last night I was playing in the Mega Stack and not long after losing a chunk of my chips with AA v KK ( I just said sigh nice hand, nothing else ☺) I built up my stack and had a hand where I had 99 and on a flop of J 9 5 ended up all in against someone who had J 5.

I won the hand, knocked them out and then noticed in the chat they had signed off with lol useless c ## t.

Why did it bother me? Because the player is one of the site's regulars, is a regular contributor on the forum and I thought they were better than that. Did I get lucky on the river? No. Did I have best hand pre flop? Yes. It was just one of those hands that happens to all of us.

I now intend playing with chat off so to anyone who sees me on a table in the future and says hello my silence is not being rude, it is because I haven't seen your message. I play for the enjoyments of the game not to be bad mouthed by idiots and others who should know better.

Oh the irony that the 'chat' has now gone quiet on this thread ;-)

As someone who use chat but more a la live play I like the chat functionality...that said as I am also someone who receives a fair share of poor comments (ironically never at the higher levels but often at the lower stakes such as 30nl) I fully concur with your comments.

My understanding is that 'chat bans' are used and I believe at least one cash reg is currently serving one. I have full confidence in sky poker brand and in particular Tikay so assume we can rest assured and that serial offenders will get reprimanded.

Good luck good luck at tables

    Hi..

That's a pity that one, probably out of character, comment from the regular has put you off chat...for me, the chat's part of the fun of why I play...I don't overly diss people, I call peeps I know 'potstealers' but I feel I know them so I can

If I'm abused like you were , I normally just tell them I've got their chips. If I lose, especially a badbeat , I might put ffs....or hmmmm, nh I think...

Irish Rose told me at Manchester that I once disrespected her in the chat- I was mortified so since then I've been even more careful......btw that makes your hand even more ironic-she can explain!

btw nh and yes, I hope you reconsider and would be good to chat sometime!!

Hope you run well either way-unless you play me, then I hope my 27o call to your allin makes! lol

    @ABO151

If they are reported, & the offence merits it, yes, they are chat-banned on the Tables.

By a quirk of the systems (don't ask......) chat-bans at the Table & on the Forum are NOT linked. Which is a bit odd, if you think about it, as, logically, they should be. For now, though, that's not the case, & personally, I'm happy with that. So a player can be chat-banned at the Tables but not on the Forum, & vice-versa.

Fwiw, I never liked when this was a rule for about a year or so during my forum ban. Fortunately, I still kept chat privileges during this time as my forum ban at the time predated the rule coming in, but I despised that rule. I think it was brought in with good intentions, but it just doesn't work.

People acting inappropriately in the heat of the moment is a totally different thing to someone acting inappropriately after they've had half an hour to calm down but still decide to go on the forum and moan about how the site is rigged, or abuse a particular player for playing a hand badly.

While in some cases I think a ban from one should result in a ban from the other, I don't think a rule where "If you're banned from the forum, you're also banned from chat" that has to be applied in 100% of cases can ever be a good thing.

I would definitely be okay with forum banning certain repeat chatbox offenders though, and chat banning some of the persistent "rigged" posters on the forum who also bore everyone with the same moans in chat.

Just wanted to say that the person in question who prompted this post has been big enough to send me a message of apology which was appreciated and accepted - but I still aim to steer clear of chat to avoid the Sky is rigged Muppets!

If nothing else, I hope this thread has made a few people think before they start ranting in chat. ☺

Some really good points there Andy. Not sure I agree with all of them, but it's an interesting problem in some ways.

To solve a problem such as this, I always go back to the root cause - if folks did not get chat-banned (& they are usually chat-banned with good reason), the problem would not exist. So, less abuse/trolling = less chat-bans.

The previous Management - & I'm talking 4 or 5 years ago now - showed zero tolerance, chat-banning players with no hesitation, & closing Forum threads left right & centre.

It's infinitely better now, threads don't get closed & folks don't get chat-banned on the Forum except in the most extreme cases (racism, etc). I'm also reinstating Forum chat rights to previously chat-banned players whenever I see the opportunity. However, I can only do this on the Forum, not the Tables, that's a different matter & I have no input on the latter.

    .
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you TK for making the Forum a more enjoyable place to be & chat.

I was one of the victim of the ( chat ban cull ) when trying to get banned players re-instated pushed to hard , result ban...... no swear words or sky is rubbish just went, ariston & on, like I do, history now but lots of good players got the chop with life time bans. What's served by life ban.? Bad boys can reform given the chance look at me.... cough!
Three strikes and your out/ Campaigned for armistice fell on deaf ears then.

If they were to be re-instated would the old predecease/grudges flare up again, the Forum Mafia, Bully boys responsible for most players getting banned, as I remember. Lovely idea never to late to try, but given the length of time some have been away would they respond & would they be welcomed back. ? fwiw

Amazing how people come up with these assumptions. It WASN'T him, my reasoning for not naming the person was because my disappointment isn't a reason to start a slanging match and name and shame the person, it was to highlight a problem that needs addressing.

And 99.9% of the time I let it ride, this time I chose not to.
