Hi all

I have set this up.

The league code is 8034105

Name - Sky Poker League Aintree 2018

An invite should go out to all who entered the Cheltenham League in 2017, not 2018, it wouldnt let me update that league, so if you entered the 2018 version please take this as your invite.

link to game is https://fantasyracing.telegraph.co.uk/aintree/

and then login or register.

Pick your three jockeys and three trainers for up to three stables. When you pick your stable name a page will come up where you can join the league.

Please join early , you can always amend your stable/jockeys/trainers up to the start of the festival. YOU CANNOT AMEND THEM WHEN THE FESTIVAL STARTS.

Then all you need to do is pick your horses each day.

Please remember when joining the league there is a prize for the top league , which we have been close to winning in the past so please take as seriously as you can.

Tips on stables take it or leave it. Probably leave it as I havent won this for a while.

Always best to have three stables if you can handle all the admin. Also it is unlikely that all your stables will do well so it is best to spread the load so one of them has a chance of finishing high and help us to win the league of leagues.

The way they sort the figures out means that when picking your stable it is hard to get the right jockeys with trainers but I think I have found a pretty good stable if you think the Irish will repeat their Cheltenham domination.

Jockeys - PAUL TOWNEND 6, DAVIE MULLINS 14, MARK WALSH 10
Trainers - WILLIE MULLINS 1, GORDON ELLIOTT 5, HARRY FRY 20

1 would rather have Russell and Kennedy but unfortunately they have made that impossible. Having said that the first two jockeys should ride most of the better Mullins horses and Walsh could get a few cast offs. Then with this stable chose Mullins and Elliot horses , remember bigger places give you more points then odds on shot winners and you could do very well. Add any big fancies you have and it could be even better. If ten of us have one of these stables you never know, we could be unbeatable.

On the other hand I could be talking rubbish, I often do.

    WHAT DO YOU THINK ?

    Mullins & Elliott is tempting.

Why have they dropped Elliott down list - hasn't he got many runners?
  • vaigretvaigret Member Posts: 16,380
I think it is because Aintree seems to favour some of the english trainers more and of course Twiston Davies has the National Favourite so thats why he has gone up. Elliott might have less horses than cheltenham but will still have some biggies going.

There is always the option of looking at your stables closer to the start of the festival the trouble is when you tweak then you find it is **** hard to get a balanced stable. Its hard enough as it is and for every opinion like mind their will be thousands of others. And as I said who am I to say I am any expert.

I still think it good to try and balance the trainers/jockeys for example another of mine is

Jockeys - de boinville, geraghty, J bowen
    Trainers- henderson, king, harrington.

The numbers come up right and they complement each other. If henderson has a good Aintree there wont be many winners not ridden by those three and even better if you fancy a Henderson horse ridden by Fehily have that as your selection and you cover both bases.

it may have been a good idea if a removers spreadsheet was done so everybody had one team same and the same picks every day you would either win by miles or sink too bottom of ocean

thats not a bad idea but the prize for league of leagues is so small now probably not worth the effort or though it would be nice kudos to win it.

Just having a quick check on TRAINERS with RUNNERS, quite a few trainers on FANTASY LIST don't have runners.
  • vaigretvaigret Member Posts: 16,380
I will check closer to the meeting and post a list of trainers jockeys not at Aintree, in the meantime which ones did you spot
  • zadoczadoc Member Posts: 3,402
Did'nt make a list to be honest - really should have done. :(:(
    A.king only had one
    DeBROMHEAD NONE

Best from lower down list F.O'BRIEN

ELLIOTT, NICHOLLS & F.O'BRIEN may be useful - or your option ( think H.FRY had one )

Watching IRISH NATIONAL yesterday some of MULLINS/ELLIOTT runners may not have recovered in time.

Picking winningTrainers and jockeys is all good but picking the winning horses is the key i picked 33/1 at cheltenham and that is main reason why i scored so well.I do not really have great knowledge of horses so need some luck.
