Coping strategies ( Bad Beats)

tomgooduntomgoodun Member Posts: 3,756
There has been many a thread started by people who say they are leaving or giving up poker due to the “rigged” site, or run bad when suffering bad beats.
I would like to get folks ideas on how to cope with bad beats , I think the more that post the better as it will show the individuals who get disillusioned with the game that it really does happen to us all.

I have been guilty in the past of thinking “ Why on earth is he even in the hand with that garbage”

The way I mostly overcome this thought process is turning it round to “ I have a good hand, do I want a better hand than mine calling my raise” The answer is obviously not, so if that’s the case when I do get beat by a worse hand ( pre flop) I can justify my own play, I can do nothing about how others decide to play, they have paid the same entry fee as I and can play how they like.

Another way I have coped with others “peculiar” play is I go over the hand with my 1 year old grandson, he offers the sage advice of “ ga ga ga” which always makes me smile, hence taking away any stress caused by improbable beats.

It’s a fact of poker “life” that bad beats WILL happen, if people were given the tools to help themselves overcome any negative actions I feel that poker will be more enjoyable for all concerned.

The forum is a great place to help with coping with bad beats. There is a designated section where you can post bad beats called "Return of the Jac"
This section can also be used to post anything cheeky that you do or to announce when it is beer o' clock.

Jeez, is anything more annoying than the oh so cliche "cheeky" prefix?

"I've had a cheeky fiver on the outsider". Ugh.
