Just read this on Casinonewsdaily website. "Online poker currently generates two-thirds of the Canadian group’s annual revenue. However, the segment has seen little development over the past decade. This is why The Stars Group has been exploring opportunities that would allow it to reduce its reliance on online poker and boost its sports betting and casino brands".
There are plenty of options of other poker sites anyway, with one new site about to launch in a couple of months.
Can you expand on this Ryan? Is it common knowledge? (I don't read the poker press any more so apologies if this is out there somewhere).
I will be gutted if SkyPoker disappears. It was the first site I started on, and even though I now play on other sites as well it is ALWAYS SkyPoker that I come back to. The community is great, with familiar faces over the years - consistency.
People sometimes moan about the Cust Service and software but for me I have always found Sky to super quick sort out any problems after a tourny crash, always keep people informed via this forum and well, for me SkyPoker just 'feels' like my poker family.
Really hope this is not the end of the road - only place I can read about concrete and trains whilst I am playing poker

Not sure if it's "common knowledge" as such, but it's out there, Phil Galfond is starting a new Online Poker Site under the Run It Once banner. No idea of the timescale though, these things have a habit of slipping back. I'd guess late this year or next year sometime, but it could be sooner. Phil Ivey announced similar grand plan a few years ago but it all came to nothing.
Oddly enough, there's a link between that proposed new site, & you & I, as a very good mutual friend of you & I has just got a job with them - Vinni, aka Celtic, from Next Door & Luton, though he lives in Malta now. You might also be interested to know he's just become a Dad again, just 2 days ago, the new arrival is Tommy Calenti. He deserves his happiness after the utter tragedy of Holly.
As to Sky Poker, let's wait & see. The SB&G Directors will be addressing all the Staff over the next few days, and, if I'm able & it's appropriate, I'll try to keep people updated, or the Suits will.
The deal will take 3 or 4 months to consummate, then there will be an 18 to 24 month integration period, so let's wait & see how it all pans out.

Afternoon my sweet Thanks so much for the update on this - a lot can happen in that time period so lets all stay positive and hope for the best outcome.
As for Vinni - yaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy that's excellent news about the poker site job. A great choice as Vinni has a wealth of knowledge and great sense of humour to boot. I knew he and Amanda had just had a new addition to the family as I saw it on facebook. He totally deserves this happiness, an amazing man is Vinni, always positive. Good luck to him
Hotel is booked for SPT Nottingham so will see you soon. John and are really looking forward to the weekend. xxx
So before I embark on the Sunday grind, I've been thinking of all the connections to lead to this point.
In 2011, the EU ruled that the PL rights could no longer be held by BSkyB alone. That of course brought BT into the fray, and a bidding war took place. The PL rights saw a massive boost. In 2014/5 the same thing happened, and BSkyB made a record £5bn bid. Around the same time, BSkyB decided to sell SkyBet for £800m. Some would say that this cash was needed to fun the massive rights purchase.
You could argue that the massive popularity of the PL has also gone hand in hand with the Sports Betting industry. If we didn't have the worlds best managers and players in our league, would football betting be so popular? Could the EU's ruling set in motion all of these events? Would Stars have taken over SkyBet if BSkyB was allowed to just be the sole broadcaster?
I think it's quite common for some poker snobs to look down on Sky Poker but let's look at some major things that the site has done.
It was the first site to embrace Bounty Hunters, which in the past couple of years have become a staple on most sites.
Never allowed any third party software. This is probably the biggest issue facing online poker with bots rife on all of the major sites.
Broadcast multiple tournaments a night, where you could tune in and watch various players both in the studio and get advice on how to improve you game....I mean that doesn't sound that far away from any of the dozens of popular twitch streamers out there?
Unibet left a well established network and made their own independent site at great risk and cost and they are doing very well - again something that they probably undertook because they could see the success of SkyBet and SkyPoker.
So yeah I think that Stars can certainly be persuaded that this small environment be left alone. Sky Poker regulars will never feel at home on Stars and thus you they would be lost (along with their non poker activities).
I'd imagine that Tikay will relish this challenge more than anyone. If you go to his diary on another forum, you'll see that early on in his poker career he CRUSHED the SnGs on Stars (big BI ones too)....and a decade or so later I would hope that he will be off to Isle of Man to take the Stars Group thru the history of Sky Poker.
I've found there's usually a way to make money on a site regardless of its format. I know to many that won't be the point (the Poker purists) but the only thing that would have me out of here fully would be losing my bankroll somehow during the take-over process. Unless they ruin/dispose of the Dyms in which case I will be gone.

Please tell me that I don't need to add a smiley to confirm that it was tongue-in-cheek.....

I apologise if that seemed like a stupid comment TK. I have no idea how these types of transitions go when dealing with Betting/Poker sites. MarkyCash had mentioned in a previous post that during another take-over process involving the same company that "refunds had been given" suggesting that perhaps sometimes on other occasions players may have ended up short.
Despite what the current circumstances are or what the current proceedings are I was talking about one possible eventuality that would lead to me leaving the site..an unlikely eventuality.
In fact, my post was largely suggestive that I would remain at the site regardless of the take-over in commenting that ways can be found to win on most sites.
Not a scare-mongering post TK....a supportive post in coming forward that I wouldn't be having a knee-jerk reaction which might encourage players to do the same and stick at Sky....Assuming that's what you want of course.

No need to apologise mate, I was just being whimsical, we are on the same page you and me. I just thought it was time to lighten up the thread, I'm not a big fan of doom and gloom, it's only poker.
Will reply properly later tonight or in the morning, am watching Bayern v Real at the mo.
Am enjoying it so far, could not resist a bit of 5/2 Real Madrid, and they lead 2-1. Trouble is, their goalkeeper is a liability, he's worse than Manchester City's Joe Hart. And that's as bad as it gets.

Correct, Mick.
The new split will be (roughly) 37% poker, 37% Sports Betting & 26% Casino, so it gives a much better balance.

Bye bye Sky Poker
@Sky_SamT replied earlier on another thread that at present, everything carries on as normal until otherwise advised.
However, it has been confirmed that there are no current plans to seize players bankrolls.

Been a proper injury-fest, never seen so many muscle and soft tissue injuries in one game.
