Confidence to play live

Hey,

Was just wondering if anyone had any tips for building confidence to play live, I get confused with the colour chips and how to count out blinds and the correct call etc - I was told just to sit at home and give it a try with few mates but still nothing like playing live, if you make an error you look like a right muppet.

Do Casino's have like a novice area?

Thanks all
MH

Prior to my first live game, which was in a local social club with a gang of lads i'd never met, i went on to youtube to checkout the correct way to shuffel. Then practiced, so that when i did start playing they thought i had been playing for ages.

In regards to getting your confidence up, you should try and find a cheap game local, poss with a few mates. Most tornies will have their chips numbered so you  so no problems with their value and colours.

Not sure if i'm aloud to post this, but try these links, as they will show if theres a league near you, which are normally about a fiver to play.

As long as you play in a dealer dealt game you can just announce everything that you want to do. By declaring your action and bet amount you can do no wrong and it allows you to be as rubbish or as flamboyant putting your chips in as you want without fearing to break the rules or do something wrong. Above all just be confident and enjoy it. Remember the floor staff are there to help keep games fair and work for everyone so if you have any questions just ask them.

as long as you don't lift your cards off the table and let others see them you will be fine. People will always put you right about other kinds of mistakes.

They probably will only laugh and take the mick when you go to the toilet.

I learnt to play live rather than online so i guess im a little differnt on giving advice on the basis of its how i learned.

However what i can suggest is go to a small free entry style league system or something similar to the Nuts Poker league meantioned above, i myself play regularly with JSV Poker which is free to enter but i know most people who play now, however at the start i knew of none of them. If your lucky enough like myself i had one of the older more experianced lads take me under their wing and showed me the ropes of the hands and betting. I always found if im usure ask someone who is there the tournament director will almost always offer some friendly advice. Expessially if your willing to help out his/her venue by bringing in new players. Each venue is usually differnt on what chip amounts and what colour each chip is worth however the tournament director is usually very helpful with this.

Again id start with either a free game or a very cheap buy in to get used to it, then once youve picked up the basics use your already existing poker abilitys to move up that ladder a little bit to a level where you feel comfortable.
