Are chat bans permanent?

DuesenbergDuesenberg Member Posts: 1,746
One of the players that I battle fairly regularly seems to be the subject of a chat ban at the moment and I was just wondering if these are normally permanent?

Also, if you are chat banned, do you lose your ability to post on the forum too?

*I promise I've been behaving myself and this isn't one of those classic enquiries about a situation a 'friend' happens to fine themselves in!

I remember seeing somewhere that a chat ban on the tables doesn’t give you a chat ban on the forum. I’m sure there are perm banns for some players, boycie was chat banned then unbanned and now chat banned again lol

I know of a couple of long time community regs ( @samantha25 and @GREGHOGG ) have had non-permanent chat bans in the past. I've also seen regs that have been d**ks in chat whenever someone gets there or plays a hand badly over a prolonged period of time, then suddenly go quiet forever.

I had a forum ban in 2012 for 'one week', which took about 4 years to get lifted. Long story...

Don't know for certain but I'd guess it depends on the nature of the offense and whether it's been an ongoing thing before it got reported.

You don't lose the ability to post on the forum with a chat ban at present. They introduced such a policy about 4-5 years ago (fortunately after I got banned) then removed it again a year or so later. I was always very strongly against it, on the basis that otherwise reasonable people say things in table chat in the heat of the moment that they wouldn't post on the forum once they've had 5 minutes to calm down, so you run the risk of losing some decent forum contributors.

The rules differ on Table Chat & Forum.

    Table Chat.

Not normally, no, they are generally 1 week/month/year or, on occasion, life. Life bans are rarely rescinded, as they have to be for a pretty serious offence - usually racism, severe trolling or serial personal attacks. All chat bans can be appealed by asking Customer Care. Good social skills will help if appealing, going all aggro on some poor CC assistant won't cut much ice. Chat bans for stuff like racism are almost never rescinded.

Almost all Table Chat bans are administered by Customer Care, very occasionally CC send cases across to the Office who may or may not ban.

    Forum

These are administered completely separately from Table Chat bans, so you can be banned on one & not the other.

These days it's pretty hard to get a Forum Chat Ban. If someone is getting a bit close to the line, generally a PM is sent asking them to chill, which usually does the trick.

Contrary to the belief of some, no Forum owner or Poker site EVER wants to chat-ban anyone. Why would they?
