I suppose he needs to have more bet/calls than just Jx and better (for example) in these spots given that he both will have a lot of cbet bluffs here (some no pair Kx and Qx type hands and maybe some weaker Ax sometimes) and some semi-bluffs (stuff with some sort of back door draw that doesn't have too much showdown value - something like Q10s which also blocks a lot of your Jx that conceivably flats pre would be a nice semi-bluff candidate) He will also be perceived to have a lot of cbet bluffs here so I guess the bet call/line makes sense...

Also, he blocks some 76 combo's and 77 (but you shouldn't really have any sets on this board anyway given you flatted pre off that stack size). He also blocks some J7... so, aside from flopping the J and deciding to fast play/go with it/protect your equity vs his... KQ? (or get max value from his 97 I suppose ) you represent very little strong value as played (maybe some trapped AA/KK pre?). Personally I would prefer not to have the 9 in my hand if bet/calling in Matt's shoes (blocking some of your most likely bluff combo's that might take this line; T9, 98, and maybe Q9s with BDFD) I would much prefer to have A7 or K7 that way we unblock your 9x draws and we block slightly more of your value; AJ (that decided to flat pre...) KJ and maybe some A7 and K7 of your own that you may decide to take this line with.

What gets me is how you get all of your chips in the middle against Matt Bates, after all he's either got it, in which case you lose, or he hasn't in which case he will out draw you and you lose. Either way you lose.
