played a poker tourny whilst on holiday in a unfamiliar casino and when the antes kicked in at1000 chips only the dealer payed.is this normal.?

    Hi @windamon

    Not unusual these days, no, by "Dealer" I assume you mean the Button, in which case that's known as the "Button Ante";


    Instead of collecting the ante for each hand from each player, the Button respectively pays the Ante for the entire table. This has the advantage that less time is lost and that the players receive more hands

    It has a lot of fans actually, & of course, like all things that get changed, a whole bunch who don't like it either. In truth, it's 6 of one & half dozen of another, but some folks get really exercised by it.

    Where were or are you on holiday?

    great yarmouth my friend. thought i would anchor the old yacht there for a few days.awfull damm weather mind!

    Yikes.

    I used to play golf at North Shore GC in Skeggy, which is just the other side of The Wash from Gt Yarmouth, jeez, the wind never stopped howling, & I'd assume it's much the same up at Gt Yarmouth, if not worse.

    Enjoy the rest of your jollies. I assume the Casino was the Grosvenor. Played a few times there back in the day with some friends of mine who lived out that way. Took forever to drive there though.
