    Tweet from Neil Channing;

    It's the 1st day proper of the 50th year of the World Series of Poker. I am missing it a bit and I don't have a dice table near my home so to get in the mood I burnt two fifty pound notes before eating a breakfast of 2000 calories involving cake, pancakes and chocolate.

    This thread is the best.
    Every single year. I will be reading it every day.
    Even when I am in Vegas.
    Heartfelt thanks for this.

    Interesting 1st day Daniel Negreanu has made the final table of event number one.

    People who follow him on twitter will know he has sold pieces of WSOP events at no mark up and received such a high response had to refund loads of backers money back as they did not get a piece.

    Good news for his backers he has made final table. Some might not be so happy they did not get to invest.

    WSOP 1 - $500 Casino Employee's NLH, Day 1 of 3, 686 entrants
    After a drop in entries the last two years, the tide has been turned with over 100 extra buy-ins in the prize pool. Longer levels and more play has certainly attracted more entrants.

    Early on, it looked like it could be a headline writers dream. Diana Plant was in a lot of pots, Cody Boyles was getting hot and Brent Pontius was on auto-Pilate.

    But all those and more (including WSOP tweeter-in-chief Kevin Mathers and open Bracelet winners Dutch Boyd and Jonathan Aguilar) went out to leave 103 players overnight

    No Brits involved (the only one mentioned at all was Olvier Biles who departed early, so the top three are Cosmo Andoloro, Christopher Bowen & Miguel Cardenas.

    They will play down to a final six today.

    Event 2 - $10K Super Turbo Bounty NLH, Day 1 of 2, 204 entrants
    Extended into a two day event this year, but down from 243 to 204 players.

    Six players go into Day 2 with the big name amongst them Daniel Negreanu. Daniel hasn't wan a bracelet since 2013, and one in Vegas for a scarely believeable 11 years, but he is in the middle of the pack aiming for his 7th bracelet.

    He is accompanied on the FT by 4 Americans, Asher Conniff and Loren Klein having the big stacks, Ali Imsirovic a middle stack and both Ping Liu and Brian Green needing something to happen quickly when they restart.

    Klein has won bracelets in each of the last three years, and a fourth would put him in very rare company.

    We had our first two GB cashes, Toby Lewis and Matas Cimbolas among the money (there may have been some others who had bounties - $3000 each, but these are not recorded.

    This will be the first event to be decided, restarting at 12noon Vegas time with just 20 minute levels and even the chip leader having just over 50BB at the re-start

    To Start Today
    Event 3 - $500 Big 50 NLH, 4 Days, Starting Flight A
    Event 4 - $1500 Omaha Hi/Lo 8 or Better, 4 Day Event

    Dutch Boyd

    How does he get into a Casino Employees Event - who'd employ him in a Casino? He'd never get a licence, surely?

    Not sure. The qualifications for the event are a little bit wider than they used to be "open to those that work for a licensed gaming facility including cardrooms, casinos, racetracks, etc" and even working for the likes of PokerNews or DraftKings is enough to get you in.

    In other news, Event 2 has resumed and I mentioned before that both Liu and Green needed something to happen early, well it did and they both doubled up through Loren Klein. Not so good news for Negreanu, his wait for his 7th bracelet goes on as he was first man out today.

    I would be, but real life intervenes! Managed to catch a few overs after lunch and I listened to the last 30 minutes on the radio during my commute into work. Looking forward to watching the highlights tomorrow.

    [From PokerNews]

    Daniel Negreanu Eliminated in 6th Place ($52,099)

    • Level 29: 60,000-120,000, 120,000 ante

    Hand #29: Daniel Negreanu shoved from the button for 815,000 and Loren Klein asked for a count from the big blind. The dealer and Negreanu confirmed the amount which prompted Klein to make the call.

    Daniel Negreanu: {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
    Loren Klein: {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

    The board ran out {2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for Klein to turn a pair of queens to eliminate Negreanu as the first player today. Negreanu made his way to the payout desk for his 111th WSOP cash to date.

    Event 1 - $500 Casino Employee's NLH, Day 2 of 3, 686 entrants
    The 103 qualifiers from Day 1 have been reduced to just 6 after a second day of action.

    The chip leader is a WSOP insider, Media Relations Manager Isaac Hanson is the overnight big stack ahead of Jorge Ruiz and Nicholas Haynes

    Two Canadian players (Adam Lamers and Jeffrey Fast) are still in the hunt for a rare non-US win in this event.

    Event 2 - $10K Super Turbo Bounty NLH, Day 2 of 2, 204 entrants
    Daniel Negreanu was among the final six going for his 7th bracelet, but in true Turbo style (the whole FT took only 72 hands) he shoved very early on, was called and beaten to finish in 6th.

    Ali Ismirovic has been one of the hotter players of the last 12 months, and he entered heads-up play with Brian Green with a deficit to make up. He got very close after doubling up on hand 70, but two hands later his pocket kings failed to hold against Green's A9 as a nine came on the flop and another on the river.

    Green takes his first bracelet and $345K, Ismirovic $213K and third placed Asher Conniff $145K (all excluding any bounties)

    Event 3 - $500 Big 50 NLH, 4 Days, Starting Flight A, 6148 entrants
    The mass participation event of this year's WSOP is the "Big 50" named for the 50th WSOP, with 50 minute levels and 50,000 starting chips.

    Each of the 4 flights will see massive numbers, the first seeing over 6100 of which 1579 were still in play at the end of the night.

    It is a European 1-2 with Cosimo Bisgno (Italy) and Luis Pinho (Portugal) bagging the biggest stacks ahead of Nevada local Andrew Baldwin.

    You've got to look quite a way down for the first GB player, Joel Isla from Cardiff (84th spot) with Calin Trif, Iain Paterson, Dean Hutchison and Daniel Ezekiel in the top 300.

    In an unusual development, the survivors from Day 1A will play Day 2A today, while the next starting flight, 1B is also in play. Then, Day 3 isn't until next Wednesday.

    Event 4 - $1500 Omaha Hi/Lo 8 or Better, Day 1 of 4, 853 entries

    The first non NLH event of the series, 373 of the 853 players successfully navigating the ten levels of Day 1.

    The chip leader is Lawrence Michael from California while Andrew Brown is second and Derek McMaster third.

    Several multiple bracelet winners are in the field, Ian Johns, Eli Elezra and Frank Kassela among them (3 each) while Daniel Negreanu after his near miss in Event 1 is trying again here.

    I can see four Brits listed, in chip order Manpreet Sangha, Philip Long, Patrick Leonard and Mel Judah.

    To Start Today
    Event 5 - $50K High Roller NLH, 4 Day Event

    Plus Flight B of the Big 50

    If it's the same guy, Philip Long won an 8 Game Mixed Event bracelet last year.
