Well done on spinning up to over £100, it takes some doing that.
In answer to your question, yes there are many players who are long term winners at the game, here on sky poker we have a few who are up many thousands, but the key point is in your statement “ It went up, it went down”, the knack is to play games that your bankroll can withstand the variance.
Personally, I play for the fun of the game and have been lucky enough not to have made a deposit since starting with the £10 free tournament tokens a few years ago, I keep a certain amount in my account and when it goes about £100 or so above that I withdraw that amount and treat my family, that way I’m under no pressure to chase any losses.
There are a variety of learning tools to help you improve your game, books, online podcasts etc.
My advice would be to keep plugging away with the freerolls, keep it fun, don’t get disillusioned if you suffer bad beats ( they happen to us all) and don’t lose what you can’t afford.
Good luck
