Best MTT Format, & why? (Late-Reg, re-entries, rebuys etc)

What is the best MTT format to achieve the fairest results, both Live & Online?
It's not that long since all MTT's were Freezeouts, & "Late Reg" never existed, you literally had to be in from the very first hand.
Now, depending where you play, you can play multiple Day 1's, with various combos of Late Reg, Re-Buy & re-entry. Some MTT's even have 6 or 7 "Day 1's", with unlimited re-entries.
Meanwhile, the biggest MTT in the world (the WSOP Main) prohibits rebuys or re-entries (so far...) but does allow Late Reg.
What is best, & why?
