Away from Brexit, remarks by MP Sir Christopher Chope about knife crime have attracted the ire of the Daily Mirror.
The Conservative backbencher told the Home Affairs Committee that teenagers at risk from knife violence should learn martial arts, or get fit to ensure they can follow police advice and run away from trouble as fast as possible.
In an editorial, the paper accuses Sir Christopher of appearing to blame teenage victims of knife attacks for the terror inflicted.
It brands him a reactionary, a clueless old duffer and a Tory dinosaur who is "an embarrassment to his constituency, party and country".

Most street knife attacks are very fast multi strike or stab affairs which because of the speed and ferocity are unblockable in 99% of situations.
At a recent seminar Senseis, Sifus, and other very high grade Masters from many disciplines of martial arts all agreed that once the blade is out unless you're covert carrying a baton, tonfu or other such weapon (highly illegal), RUN and if you see someone up the street heading your way with a blade already drawn take advantage of the warning and begin to run straight away.
If this idiot thinks that by learning a martial art young people can prevent from getting stabbed then he is utterly away with the fairies. All that will happen is people will get into a situation that they can't handle and more misery will be felt by families who lose their sons and daughters to this epidemic.
As a footnote an instructor who visits our dojo 2 or 3 times a year teaches Escrima which is a form of knife fighting often found in the Phillipines. He is lightening fast and knows just about anything there is to know about knives and techniques. He even goes to the U.S. and instructs several Police Departments and is acknowledged as one of the best in the world at what he does. Whilst staying in Detroit last year he was stabbed in an altercation (not of his making) in a restaurant. Fortunately he only required stitches and was able to return to instructing within 2 weeks.
Take care out there people.
