Next week's Forum comp ideas?

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 172,130

The Forum Comp seems to have gone (reasonably) OK this week, & unless anyone has better ideas, well do similar next week.

There's some good football most nights, plus a night of Darts, & a night at the Dogs if we can manage it.

I thought "Exact Goals Scored" worked quite well, good spread of prices, but if folks prefer straightforward 1-2-X outrights that's 100% fine by me.

RequestABets? Well I don't mind as such, & if everyone wants them then fine, we'll find a way, but I have to say they are a proper pain in admin terms, as they take forever to put on a spready, then they all need laboriously checking.

One thing I do hope to change is getting the Thread up the night before, as it helps those who are out working all day. I'll certainly try.

Big thanks to Alan @MAXALLY for his help with these, it'd be a nightmare for me without a bit of help.

First goalscorer? usually get some good odds there and there will usually be a lot of different guesses :)

First goalscorer plus home / away /win , that shouldn't be too high maintenance.

First goalscorer is a good idea as is putting it up night before.

What you do for this week should depend on whether or not you use the Grand National.

If you're including the Grand National then it would make sense to have a few longer odds markets this week so that it doesn't come down to "If you pick the winner in the Grand National you win the week by default because the prices are huge", which is bound to happen with 40-50 of us playing.

If you're including the Grand National, then I'd definitely suggest a correct score market for Sunday so that people can just punt a crazy scoreline to try and leapfrog a 20/1+ Grand National winner. Probably wouldn't make correct score a regular market choice most weeks though.

    ---

Not sure about FGS - Think it's a fun market for variety of prices but at the same time, there's a good chance some people are going to have bets being 'void' before the game begins.

If you're doing FGS I think it's best to keep that to earlier in the week where a 'void' outcome won't kill anyone's sweat to win a prize on Sunday.

Anytime goalscorer could be fun - Rail your player to score but also anti-rail everyone else's, plus the prices are so diverse that you still get the strategy of either picking a Kane/Aguero as an odds-on banker or pick a defender for a win at 10/1+. Again, probably best for Monday night and midweek games with the void bet issue to consider.

    Good Post Andy, thank you.

Not fully decided yet, but we'll probably do something separate for the National.

I agree that the GN should be separate from this Forum comp. I would however like to see at least two horse races in the week (with at least 8 to 15 runners in). This gives scope for a bigger odds winner than smaller choice options.

Anything that keeps the admin 'simple' is good for me. Too many choices will just complicate things (IMHO).

Still think one day a week should be "nap" double points day ...perhaps midweek .
And a greyhound day somewhere in the mix , it doesn't necessarily have to be sky televised.
Liked the" to finish 2nd" horse race day , perhaps next time pick out a race with a reasonable amount of runners and have a last to finish .
Winner of the week before picks out a particular market for one of the days ( within the perameters of which event has been pre selected )

If people want an obvious one darts can do lots of that, the premier league darts has 8 of the top 9 players so their will be loads of 180 and high checkouts.
Highest finish is a simple guessing game, match winning double is another simple option or how many 180 will be hit in a match

    Thanks to all who contributed.

Can't really be all things to all men (& women....) but we'll try a few of those ideas this week.

It's very late, & I'll be Offline much of Monday, travelling home, so won't have time to think too much about Monday's Comp, but will try & incorporate the suggestions, then we'll work it out as we go along.

What about everybody having say 1 trump card.

And you can play this card anytime and you automatically get double odds on that bet.

A reasonable idea, think it was suggested before actually. Only problem is it increases the level of Admin complexity. Do-able though.

Maxally would appreciate the added complication.

    @Tikay10

What about this market for tomorrow? Or a similar market for future golf comps once the darts is finished.

  • Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 172,130

    @EvilPingu

I did look at that Andy, but a 2pm tee time meaning 1.30pm Latest Entry, to allow for Admin, would be too early for many folks who cant get on the Forum until late afternoon or early evening.

Keep the suggestions coming though, I'm keen to keep things fresh.

    Morning @SidV79 & thanks.

I'm a big fan of the World Snooker Champs & will watch it daily, as will many others. However.....

We can't do a "Who will make the Final?" as part of the daily Forum Comp as it would take 2 weeks to know who won.

What about as a separate comp? Well yes, that's work, but I fancy as a comp it'd go a bit flat, as there's a 2 week gestation between "Latest Entry" & the Final. So it would need padding out with other stuff to maintain interest levels.

How does one opt in to these competitions? @Tikay10

    Hi @Summers119

No need to Opt In, sign any forms, submit DOB or blood group - just go to the daily threads & place your bet. It's that simple, you can start today. (But hurry, 2 of them close at 1pm).

If you have any questions, (this is the best thread, to save clogging up the Comp Threads), just ask, & either myself or one of the regulars will be pleased to try to help.

    Good luck.
