Not immensely funny! Perhaps It's just me , but looking at the scenes of this building which is what 800 years old , being ripped apart like this makes me very sad.
Fair point by @Toffeeandy I had not considered, but I think that's just an unfortunate coincidence. Extensive building work was taking place, & for now, I think that's where the blame lies.
no one hurt or injured unlike recent fires, only property........ that is replaceable.
A firefighter was seriously injured according to reliable news sources.
BBC news said this : A firefighter was slightly injured while tackling the blaze, Commander Jean-Claude Gallet told BFM TV. Either way tragic events.
Ahh well that's better news.
It all seems slightly less terrible this morning. Terrible, but repairable.
Yea and they managed to save some irreplaceable treasures ..again from BBC news :
What about the cathedral's treasures? Emergency teams managed to rescue valuable artwork and religious items, including what is said to be the crown of thorns worn by Jesus before his crucifixion, which were stored inside the cathedral built in the 12th and 13th centuries.
A tunic, which King Louis IX is said to have worn when he brought the crown of thorns to Paris, was also saved.
"We had a chain of solidarity, especially in saving the works of art... [They] were able to be saved and put in a safe place," said Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo. "This is a tragedy for the whole world... Notre-Dame is the entire history of Paris."

It is a shame, of that there is no doubt.
Dramatic and truly horrible images.
The building is magnificent and irreplaceable.
Very sad and quite depressing.
Just seen a video on twitter of the spire of the cathedral completely collapsing.
Irreplaceable.

Better news this morning, the main structure has been saved, & the French Government are saying the damage can & will be restored.
It won't be in my lifetime, but no matter.
Think back to the fire at York Minster or Windsor Castle, both were catastrophic, but both were fully restored.
Either way tragic events.

Spectacular photograph, which will become to "go to" image of the fire for years to come.
