Is this a profitable shove?

I know I'm facing a 3x raise from utg, however he had opened with suited connecters from utg in previous hands. Is shoving with my 66 here profitable? Or against a 3x utg raise should I just be folding? We are well into the money 12 left iirc in the 5.50 Megastack.

We both have around 16bb

    Hi @waller02,

When he/she was opening suited connectors previously was it to a 3x sizing?

Normally 3x on Sky are strong especially if it is not there normal raise size. Usually jamming 66 for 16bb over a raise even UTG will be profitable tho so depending on the answer to the above will decide if its a shove or fold.

I know you didn't mention it but I would never call though given the stack sizes and the big blind having 9bb where he/she can jam over a call with loads of money already in the pot.

yeah jam is the best way to play this if opponent has 3x non premium holdings. it wont play well as a call on 95% of flops.

    Easy Jam

His raise sizes were all over the place, some min, some 3x, lots of limping.

I was never calling, felt it was shove or fold. Given his style of play I thought this was a good spot to shove. He did call with ATo hit the 10 on the flop but I got lucky and rivered a 6.

I made a note. My question now is, now I know he will call me with hands like ATo does this still make it a shove if I'm in a similar spot against him again? I guess you can settle for a flip but isn't it hands like these that you are looking for them to fold so you can just take it down pre?

I think it is still a profitable shove, I did the same against an incredible fish last night, he got extremely lucky as ever but I think its the right move ;-)

You'd expect him to fold ATs 16BB after 3x open??

Aren't resteals common with any Ace common around 20BB?

Not sure why he not just open shove anyway if he going to call if off, maybe he thought he'd induce a shove from a worse hand, but doubt it opening 3x UTG, looks pretty strong!

Think 66 shove is fine IMHO if you know his ranges suspect - only way is to shove or fold as you've said. Just make sure to run good when you get in it :) nh
