Morning all.
Salisbury is our venue today, think it's the first time the Daily Forum Comp has featured Salisbury.
Some great horses have won at Salisbury. Going back 250 years, both Gimcrack & Eclipse won there, and in the last half century, Mill Reef & Brigadier Gerard both made winning debuts there. Brigadier Gerard is, without a shadow of doubt, the best racehorse of my lifetime, bar none, including Frankel. Lester Piggott had his first ride at Salisbury.
It's a great racecourse.
Yesterday's little quiz was answered correctly by everyone ("Tears for Fears"), so today's is a little harder, but still very gettable. Here's the great Brigadier Gerard after yet another facile win, but can you name both the jockey, & the chap who is leading the horse in?

Here's Sean Levey, who rides Oydis in our race. Sean holds 2 distinctions, being the jockey of the longest priced 1000 Guineas winner ever (66/1), and more importantly, the first black jockey to win an English Classic. As far as I am aware, there are only 2 black jockeys in the UK, Sean, & Royston Frrench (don't think SdS counts). UK horse racing is overwhelmingly white. Pretty terrible really, but maybe that's a story for another day.
Non-runners
Heavy & prolonged rain will have changed the going, & that gives Trainers the chance to withdraw horses without being penalised, so expect a few non-runners today. Keep an eye on the thread, our regulars are very good at letting us know about non-runners.https://www.sportinglife.com/racing/racecards/2019-07-27/salisbury/racecard/535549/john-boyden-handicap
Here's Andrea Atzeni, who is booked to ride the jolly.
