We already have a BIGKICKOFF thread, but it's a bit long-winded, & includes all the Promos over an 8 week period.

So this thread is just for Weeks 1 & 2, to keep it nice & simple.

Week 1, Prize Draw & Rake Races

Prize Draw

For every 10 poker points you earn between Friday 2nd August 00:00:00 and Sunday 4th August 23:59:59 you'll get 1 ticket into the prize draw on Monday 5th August. There is no cap on the number of tickets you can earn. For example, earning 98 points will get you 9 tickets in the draw.

The prize draw will award 50 players a combined total of £2,000 in cash prizes, split as follows;

Rake Races

There are 4 separate rake races on the dates Monday 5th, Tuesday 6th, Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th August. The highest 3 point earners on each day will win the following cash prizes.

Week 2, Prize Draw & Rake Races

This is exactly the same as Week 1, except of course the dates are different.

Prize Draw

Exactly as Week 1, except dates are Friday 9th August 00:00:00 to Sunday 11th August 23:59:59 with the Prize Draw set to take place & be announced on Monday 12th August. Prize distribution is exactly the same as Week 1.

Rake Races

Exactly as Week 1, except dates are Monday 12th, Tuesday 13th, Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th August.

Prizes are the same as Week 1, viz;

With the exception of Poker Premiership, which has separate Opt In Codes (not yet announced), you only need to Opt In once to cover all the Big Kick Off Promos. (Prize Draw, Rake Races, Power Hours & DYM Streak Week).

Quick reminder - Week 1 starts at MIDNIGHT tonight (or, more precisely, 00.00.01 on Friday 2nd August, which is tomorrow).


So if you plan to get involved, might make sense to Opt In NOW. So many players play the first few days then realise they have not Opted In.

Rake races that only pay 3 places are hideous. Don't think rake races are good for the game anyways but paying 3 places you may as well just write the spin regs a cheque and not bother having everyone play Poker.

Uncapped points draws I guess are okay to give recs some equity but I'd prefer a cap. Can people win multiple prizes? Pretty likely if someone grinds like crazy for a weekend and gets 10k points.

Points boost and DYM streak looks good

Cant see them putting extra volume in to come top 3 either.

No, in the Prize Draw you can only win 1 prize per draw. You could win 1 prize in both draws of course.

Last month was a very poor promo for the top point earners on the site. All things being even a subsequent promo that is very good for the top points earners balances it out, whilst also providing recreational players/ lower point earners a chance to win.

I know some people believe 100% of promotions should be orientated toward recreational players. Realistically though, it is more valuable, at least in the short term, for the site to encourage increased volume in their higher raked games.

Given that some spin regulars massively up there volume for the Sky Premiership promo that pays £1000 for 7 days of grinding (£140 a day); it seems very likely that £400 for one day of grinding will be enough incentive to increase volume for.

Even thinking short term, only paying three people won't encourage the average 20-50nl or DYM reg to put in any extra volume. If they paid 10-20 places, it would encourage some of the regs in other games to play more to nick an extra few quid. That's what makes it such a poor promo IMO, not the fact it's a rake race.

Sky knows what it's aiming to do with the rake race payout/ structure. Diluting the money amongst more places would only serve for spin regulars to play normal volume and still take the highest spots on the leaderboards. The rake generated by spin up players upping their volume to win in this structure will far surpass the rake a DYM grinder would contribute if more places were paid. £700 would be spread too thin amongst say 10 places to make it worth it for anybody to really put in a significant grind imo.
