The 2nd Ashes Test

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 171,070

The 2nd Test is due to start at 11am this morning at Lords.

Unfortunately, it's raining in London now, & the forecast is very bad. There's a chance of play later, but no play at all today is the most likely option.

If we were 1-0 up that would be just fine, but Australia are 1 up & so they wont mind if it rains from now until Sunday.

BBC text updates suggest Curran misses out from the 12.

Definitely looks like we're going to be losing more time out of the game between now and Sunday as well :(

Worth noting as a full day has been lost prior to the toss taking place, this is now a 4 day game which means the lead required to enforce the follow on drops from 200 to 150. Could be significant when Steve Smith scores a million then we collapse as per usual.

well im sure the aussies wont be overly bothered about bowling at denly again, but then who else do u pick as a main batsmanmost have been tried over the last 4/5 years

England win the toss, & naturally, bat first.

Think that was a toss we had to win to stand a chance over 4 days.

450 by tea on Friday & then declare will do nicely.

    Easy.

    Uh-oh.

Roy snicks one to the 'keeper & we are 0-1 in the 2nd over.

Joe's turn to produce a big century.

    Easy-ish.

Sorry @Tikay10 but Australia won the toss and invited England to bat.
Jason Roy , as I said before the last game should not be opening, he doesn’t for Surrey, he wants to feel bat on ball , the exact opposite of what a good opening batsman should be like.
They need to know where their off stump is and leave as many balls that are not hitting the stumps alone.
No surprise that he is out early to a ball he did not need to play.

Exactly, frustrate the bowlers don't give them any early momentum, then the runs will come later on.

Wow. I thought Australia would bat if they won the toss, so just assumed.

Pah. Root was just 86 short of that Century.

Who are you getting to open instead?

Not saying I have all the answers, but I would be picking an opener by trade, rather than trying to fit square peg in round holes. Crawley at Kent or Sibley at Warwickshire are possibles. At least they open the batting for a living.

    Where's your money going?

    England 17/2

    Draw 1/2

    Australia 7/2
  • Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 171,070

Unfair question really. Not only is the Draw logically the most likely outcome, but the London weather forecast is strongly suggesting we'll see plenty of intermittent rain showers today.

So, fill a wheelbarrow with pound notes & wheel it down to your local Betfred & plonk it on the Draw.

    What could possibly go wrong?

The problem is England’s batting lineup looks incredibly vulnerable. If Australia get the same bowling conditions England got Friday morning, low cloud and floodlights on, they could bowl England out in under an hour. They would then have to bat around whatever rain delays may come chasing 150ish. I might have a virtual £10 on Australia @7/2 myself.

If it wasn't for the English weather then I would be extremely tempted by Aus 4-0 @ 9/1.
