Rugby World Cup

Do we have any RU fans here?

The Rugby World Cup is less than 10 days away, & we could get a sweat thread going. I don't mind seeding it if there is some interest, but don't much fancy talking to myself.

So if anyone wants to get involved, speak up please, & if we have enough interest, we'll get it revved up.

Here's the current Outright odds. As you can see, all the Home Nations are included, even Wales.

    Quite surprised by those odds.

New Zealand are deservedly favourites, but that price is way too short.
South Africa also look too short, and feel that England should be 2nd favourites.
Even so, England's odds look about right.

The value is in the odds for Ireland, Wales and (particularly) Australia.

Australia at 16/1 has got to be worth a punt.

Rugby is my first love, both Union and League and I have enjoyed playing, refereeing and coaching over the years.

FWIW I think England will make the last 8 but I can't see us progressing further and to be honest the semis would be a great performance. We have gone backwards over the last 18 months rather than building and building as we did under Woodward in 03 and to some extent Cooke in 91.

Can't see the Aussies remaining at 16s for long that just represents way too much value for a team I fully expect to be a final 4 side.

At the end of the day it's going to the Southern Hemisphere again, it's just a case of which of the big 3 turn up and stay healthy

Argentina are a great outsider to follow. Several years of playing in the Rugby Championship has given a more rounded game to what has always been a strong pack and there will be few Northern Hemisphere teams that will relish facing them. I would say that apart from England, Wales and France, the Pumas are a match for the rest and better than many give them credit for.

In 7 minutes time, the Rugby World Cup starts "proper.

The prelims are over, now it gets serious.

England v Australia in the World Cup, RU does not get better.

This should be a cracking game. I think, and hope, that we will beat the Aussies but not by much.

Split loyalties as want England to win but have Australia at 16/1 to win the cup.

Even if they somehow beat us, I can't see them having a sniff of winning the cup. 16s was worth a punt, but they were 16s for a reason, it's not a great Australian side as their lacklustre performances have shown thus far. I would give New Zealand, England, South Africa and Wales a far better chance of winning the tournament.

I agree but 16/1 for me was too big to ignore as they can turn it on when needed.

They are 33/1 now, and only trailing by 8 points at half time.
