Who won what on Friday.

When I type that Thread Title each day, I always wonder if it needs a question mark, as it can be read both as a statement & a question. Certainly wrong to place a question mark after a statement, & just as wrong to omit a question mark after a question. These are the matters of import that keep us all awake at nights.

A steady evening, with numbers under pressure again. The Main missed by 3 entries - barely a flesh wound - & the others did OK, if not great.

Bear in mind of course that at £10,000 Friday has the 2nd most valuable Main Event of the week.

    SPT Notts Semi (11 entries)

    The Hippo booked another SPT Notts seat so, allowing for those he carried over from Brighton, he's now at the maximum of 4 seats, with Tina, aka karlluke winning her 2nd seat. She & I shared the cash bubble at Brighton, so fingers crossed she runs a little better this time.

    TheSaw collected £44 in 3rd, almost enough to play the Semi Final again tonight.

    @ctbn 16577.50 1 SPT Nottingham Seat

    @karlluke 16422.50 2 SPT Nottingham Seat

    @TheSaw 0 3 £44

    @IrishRose 0 6
    @peiratis88 0 7
    @MISTY4ME 0 8

    Ctbn is a beast.

    Thread purpose is to reveal who won what, so it’s a statement not a question. More importantly is that the title is a title, and so shouldn’t have a full stop 😳😄

    I prefer the question mark personally.

    A statement imo would be titled something like "FRIDAY'S RESULTS"

    I am right? No?

    It's got to be multiple exclamation marks in my opinion.

    FRIDAY'S RESULTS!!!!!!!

    So much better.

    Well now, this is most interesting.

    We have @StayOrGo saying one thing, @bbMike the complete opposite, & @waller02 who can do one.

    Ignoring @waller02 - & we must - I believe both are can be correct or incorrect. I'm inclined towards bbMike at present, but it's very close, 52-48, rather like Brexit.

    Full marks to bbMike though for the point about the full-stop. That's 100% correct, & it's something that annoys me every time I do it, I seem to have a bit of a blind spot with thread titles.

    Whilst we are on the correct use of punctuation - you've started me off now - here's one I see often which makes me want to go ballistic.

    Here's an example;

    How old are you. ?

    1) There is never - NEVER - a space between the last letter & the punctuation mark.

    2) We don't use a full-stop AND a question mark (or exclamation mark) after the word. They have their own built-in full stop. Look;

    I'm now going to lie down for an hour in a darkened room to try to calm down.

    In the unlikely event it has slipped under your radar, I think this could be one of your all-time favourite reads Tikay... :)

    So.? Who did win what on Friday.??!!
  • Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 172,092

    ;)

    Thanks @Duesenberg

    I've read it, and yes, it's excellent.

    As books go, it's unique, or as someone annoyingly wrote elsewhere, very unique, which annoyed me so much I wanted to eat my own head.
