The online gaming world is “quite popular”. There is a World Cup of EA sports, apparently universities are offering courses...
The game fortnite has a lot of followers and ‘players’, I understand a kid from the UK recently won a fair amount playing their World Cup or something similar.
When I attended school we played football, rugby, cricket. All outdoor games which I feel benefit the growth of a child/teen.
I saw a clip on tv which showed a zombie-like teen alongside his adoring parent who was praising him for his rise in the gaming world ( urghhh)
With the rise of childhood obesity should these games be encouraged?

I hope I would never allow a child of mine to spend more than a brief amount of time playing these online games. Maybe an hour or two per week, tops. Peer pressure is the problem though, other kids do it so it's hard for the parents to say no.
However, you & I are "older generation", & we see things so differently.
The internet has changed the world. That genie is out of the bottle & ain't ever going back.
There's still plenty of good in the world, & many children are being raised well & go on to healthier pursuits, hobbies & jobs. Plenty of bad, too.
Even grown-ups play these online games these days, I see it on Twitter every day, normal, otherwise intelligent adults chirping that they have reached Level x of some children's Online Game. WTF?
I could spend all day perusing Wikipidea, "deep-diving" a subject from page to page, or reading non-fiction books, others prefer to play Online games. Who is to say they are wrong & we are right?
We are all so different I suppose. Maybe just as well.
