I was watching 'World's Greatest Motorcycle Rides' and Henry Cole was riding in Australia and claimed that Western Australia was bigger than Europe, that shocked me so I thought I'd check his claim out and was surprised it's true, which then lead me on to other country sizes compared to each other.

That's extraordinary.
To fly east to west coast (Sydney to Perth for example) takes about 4 hours, so is the equivalent of flying London to Istanbul more or less.
The same trip via train takes 72 hours (speaking from experience, that was a looonnng journey). One of those 'glad to have done it but never again' type experiences.
An 8 hour car journey for the average Aussie is a relatively short drive, whereas we'd view such a journey considerably differently.
Amazing country, would encourage anyone to visit given the opportunity.
Must have a staggering amount of uninhabited land (uninhabited by humans that is!)

Having been right through the centre of Australia on a train, I can confirm there isn't much there
They do lay claim to the longest stretch of straight train track in the world.
It gives @Tikay10 butterflies.
