Who won what on UKOPS Day SIX (Wednesday October 30th)

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 172,070

Day 6 (of 10) of UKOPS went reasonably well, with the £25,000 of Guarantees comfortably surpassed by over £30,000 of Prize Pools, & so covering by ~ 20%.

The opener, which was PLO8, missed by £100, &, all things considered, I think Sky James probably half expected that, but feels it important to give the ploppers something at UKOPS time. UKOPS 37, the £50er at 10pm had a close shave too, beating Guarantee by exactly one entry.

Overall though, numbers are holding up rather well it seems to me.

I must concentrate for the next 2 or 3 hours whilst I do the report, as there were way too many errors yesterday. It's because I rush, I think. Or maybe the onset of senility. For some reason my mind was cast back to my early schooldays, & it went something like this;

Teacher; Anthony, when WILL you start listening to what I tell you?

Me; Pardon?

On we go.

    UKOPS 33 £2,000 PLO8 (£2,000)

    It always fascinates me that good poker players seem to be able to excel at almost any MTT discipline, be it NLH, PLO, PLO8 or the more exotic stuff such as Razz, Stud & so forth. Of the 17 who cashed in last night's UKOPS PLO8, I doubt that more than 4 or 5 have played much 4 card stuff.

    And yet, look at that FT, most of them are known as really decent NLH players, & here they are dominating a PLO8 affair.

    So well done to the winner, Dog Bloke, runner-up & Man of the Moment miniman88, & Tedson, all of whom are better known for their exploits in NLH. It's amazing how many cashes miniman88 has had already in this UKOPS, but he was on fire for a week or two before it began, & let's not forget he also took down SPT Notts.

    Well done too to TheDart, Uncle Pom (who is in his late seventies) & penguin7, all of whom have a decent PLO8 pedigree.

    May be worth mentioning to those who love PLO, aka The Beautiful Game, that there is a UKOPS PLO jobbie on Saturday. Online PLO, in a UKOPS on a Saturday night. Does life get better?

    UKOPS 34 £10,000 Rebuy (£11,750)

    This was the Day 6 Main Event.

    As if to make my point that good poker players are usually versatile, at least 3 of them who cashed in the PLO8 also cashed in this - Dog Bloke, TheDart & miniman.

    I don't know much about the winner, but a little searching reveals he won the Sunday Major on September 15th.

    TheDart has plenty of good results on his Sky Poker resume, & as well as 2nd in this let's not forget he was 4th in the PLO8. He's a great guy & I'm delighted for him.

    In 3rd was the very handsome & talented @stack_u (that's called "fill", in truth he is neither) who we usually see at SPT's.

    In 5th was GELDY, who many of you know really well, & I'm sure Rose would have been on the rail cheering him on.

    6th place went to grinddd, who you may recall won the UKOPS Mini the previous night.

    gitmen had not played an MTT for 4 or 5 days but returned with a bang.

    UKOPS 36 £3,000 Bounty Hunter (£3,520)

    Back in September of 2018 rich-a-64 had a bad night & came on the Forum chuntering that he was forever getting it in as 95% favourite but still losing & was looking for another poker site, so I'm genuinely pleased he was hung in here & come up with a nice win. He's been here a while, to be fair - his first post on the Forum was way back in 2010. I was still a young man then.

    In 6th was Jessieak who was 2nd in UKOPS 02 on the opening night, plus a bunch of small cashes.

    Thank you, & I genuinely don't mind folks pointing out errors. However, for once, this was not an error.

    It certainly did miss by £100, as mentioned in the Intro, but the figure in brackets represents the Prize Pool. So even if they miss, the Prize Pool is still paid in full.

    Agree with the above having the winning mentality when it comes to the crunch helps a lot. Feel i made a major mistake in this last night i was going along well until it got to the last 18 (15 paid) then i fell into the trap of easing up until the bubble burst. I was 6/18 and just behind the chip leader for our table who was a very good NLH player. Knowing the bubble was not far off he started to bet full pot preflop. Myself and others just seemed to keep folding every raise as we wanted to cash (£44 for 15th). I had about 2 good hands in this spell that i folded, The one that springs to mind is AK45 which normally i would play but with two players on about 2BB and a full pot raise by table chip leader i decided to fold.

    After two more orbits the bubble was burst but by then the damage was done the table chip leader was now more than double my stack and i had about 5BB left. Think it was @MattBates who addressed this issue before about having the mentality to try and think about winning the tournament from this spot not just thinking about min cash. Hopefully i have learned my lesson next time i have this situation.

    As a good PL08 player @Tikay10 could i pick your brains on the AK45 spot, Would you have folded in this situation?

    I think I donated my chips to dogbloke in the PLO8, so pleased to outlast him here. Yes Rose was cheering me on but I couldn't see the rail as I was playing on my phone down the pub. That does have its disadvantages as I thought I was regging for a bounty hunter. Gotta love Skypoker.

    @safc71

    Not sure about "good PLO8 player", but flattery gets you everywhere.

    The correct play is to 3 bet him there & if he 4 bets, get it in. You can't ever be in terrible shape, & you have a very reasonable hand at both ends, perfectly balanced. And it seems he has been 3-betting light, so it's definitely a spot to go to war with.

    Whether I'd have the courage & gamble in me is another matter...

    I appreciate the kind words Tikay and always enjoy reading your 'who won what threads'.

    I always look forward to the UKOPS nights that bring less Bounty Hunters, so was nice to get my money's worth last night.
