Online gambling firms take another hit

£2 cap on online casino wagers is being mentioned. I think it will happen. The regulators stance is going to be near enough parallel to their stance on betting shop terminals - where harm is happening they will make changes.

I'd speculate the UKGC will keep at this type of thing and over the next 10 years and the industry will change a lot, which is why we see a lot of the mergers, I'd reckon. It's the only way to consolidate.

Nanny state? Or good job well done?

Absolutely no expert in this, but doesn't this policy really target the wrong people? Those who place regular £2 wagers on roulette etc seem like exactly the type of person who need help with addiction. Could be very wrong there.

An addict who places £2 bets on roulette is a safer addict than one who places £100 bets on roulette, surely. They still need help tho, ye.

Doesn't sound like online poker will be much fun if the max buy-in for any game becomes £2 :(

Not if he places 50 £2 bets...

Good point though, in all seriousness

What they've done on the betting terminals is restrict you to £2 per wheel spin so people don't do exactly that.

I doubt poker would be affected because of it's pier to pier nature with the gambling companies effectively being just a fee charging escrow.

    Quoting Talal Shakerchi here:

'I warned about this when PS started to introduce low-skill formats which approach pure gambling. The danger is that the line between poker and gambling becomes blurred and that regulators will be more inclined to treat them in the same way.'

If operators understand this then, to be very optimistic, they might make poker formats less gambly. This might be pie in the sky thinking, mind you.
