SPT Vegas, why not just play a $1K bracelet event?

I see the 2020 Sky Poker Tour Las Vegas being promoted at the moment.

I am kind of baffled as to why the $1K event is a 4 table tournament with all the sky regs playing each other, instead of everyone playing a $1K NL bracelet event.

There are loads of $1k NLHE bracelet events that will be super soft and have large fields, with chunks up top. Anyone who is doing well on sky (either cash or comps) should have a big edge on the field. Obviously the 36 sky regs playing in the SPT event cannot have a net edge on the field, as the event is entirely populated w sky regs. The SPT just deliberately segregates all of us from the absurdly soft games full of random US rec. players.

If I told one of my live pro mates I flew to Vegas, over the WSOP, to play a SNG entirely populated with British online RB grinders they would think I was completely insane.

What am I missing guys?

All the best

I think the big thing you’re missing is people have friends that they like to catch up with and even talk to now and again. “Fun” I think it’s called

To my knowledge sky players have collectively made a loss every time sky poker has put a contingent of Sky players into the $1k. A mixture between variance and too many people being hungover! Think the original idea of the private sit n go was to keep the money between sky players. Yeah, it might be around the toughest $1K in Vegas but it's also the most fun. There's great novelty in playing with friends and the aliases you see online in person and it's always a fun atmosphere even with the big money.

As Groggy notes, Sky Poker took players to play the WSOP every year (8 times in all, & over 200 players in total) but WSOP cashes were far & few between.

This will now be the 3rd year in a row we've had our own private tourney at Venetian, & the players who went will testify how much fun they had.

Sky Poker is a recreational site, & lots of those who qualify have never even played live poker before, but they want the "Vegas experience".

There's nothing wrong with serious heads who want to just go there for WSOP poker, good luck to them, but there's also a place for those who want to just see Vegas, take an immediate family member or friend & just chill.

The atmo in our Private Tourney is incred, too.

There's nothing wrong with either approach, it boils down to whatever floats your boat.

...... and when you get up at 6am Saturday morning to watch the UK Horse Racing (which sadly wasn't on :( ) , and you bump into the lads led by @rspca12 rolling (literally) in from the Irish Bar ...... and in the cardroom you see @GSmith13 sat behind the 'Great Wall of China' in chips on a Cash Table, you just know it's worth winning that seat ;)

Much better to distribute SKY cash amongst SKY Players too ........ just hope I can win a seat again , and try not to donate my chips to @FeelGroggy :s

GOOD LUCK .... I promise you won't regret going B)
