I have never been one to complain, but I had a really annoying moment at Cheltenham on Friday.

I was placing a £300 win bet on the second race.
I selected the horse, and the bet appeared in my betting slip.
I entered the stake.
The box said accept price change and place bet.
As the horse had drifted in the betting.
Who doesn't accept a better price?
I clicked and the betting slip said suspended.
I was sat in front of the telly and they were still at the post.
Of course the horse won at 11/2.
I was really annoyed and fired off an email.

I received a reply fairly quickly.
Although I would interpret the reply, as their attempt to make it clear that they didn't give a sh1t.
It basically said that they can do what they want.
I am sure they can, but isn't providing a service to customers important.

They said.

Thank you for contacting Ladbrokes VIP Customer Support regarding your bet placement issue.

Anthony, I would like to firstly extend apologies for disappointment that you could not place the bet. While I cannot give you exact reason why bet was not accepted, as I do not have sufficient information, in general when races are about to go off, some markets may be suspended by trading team. This can happen for number of reasons and at any time, even way before the start of the race.

To ensure your bet is accepted via Telebet service, please ensure you call with sufficient time before the official off time. Same applies for the bets placed online.

I take issue with some of the comments.

Firstly I had a similar dispute with them around 20 years ago.
They were able to tell me the exact time I attempted to place the bet, and the exact time the race was off.
This resulted in them paying me out.
Although I was betting with them much more at that time.

So the conclusions I will draw, are as follows,
She didn't have sufficient information because she couldn't be bothered to look for it, because it is available.
In a whole lifetime of visiting betting shops, I have never seen betting suspended on a horse race before the off, unless there has been a late withdrawal.
In fact many bets are taken on every horse race after the off, with the exception of very short distance races.
Surely it should be a two way street.
Shouldn't they have an obligation to take a bet, before the off?
My conclusion is that Labrokes deal with these issues according to the amount of money you bet, rather than the validity of the complaint.

I have closed my account.

Amazingly she ended the reply as follows,

At Ladbrokes we are determined to deliver great Customer Service and would appreciate a moment of your time to complete a short survey regarding this email, this survey can be found here

Unprintable.

I am afraid I struggled to get past the opening sentence.

You tried to place a bet. You were aware that you were unsuccessful doing so.

Would you have paid them the money had it lost? Of course not.

Is it frustrating? Yes. Would I never bet with them again in that circumstance? I'm with you there. In fact, I have never bet with Ladbrokes since something similar happened to me in 1982 (I harbour grudges).

Case closed, m'lud. Back to the Brexit thread ;)

I also harbour grudges...seriously did you just point Haysie to the Brexit thread?
Social irresponsibility taken to a whole new level....💩

They did pay me out in similar circumstances some time ago.

I am sure that there will be a million terms and conditions relating to a bet.

So, I am sure that they could avoid a legal obligation to pay out.

However there is also a moral obligation.

I am certain this was a mistake.

Despite what they say in the email, I am certain that they wouldn't suspend the betting early on races at Cheltenham on purpose.

    Why on earth would they?
