I'm usually a cider drinker but lately I've been getting a taste for beer,a friend recommended McEwans Champion, tried some tonight and it's a nice drink and at 7.3% a decent strength. Any other decent beers that are worth trying?

You can try some of these, but I think it’s best not to have too many plans for later in the day.

    And there is this.
It's a Hungarian spirit that was given to me by a Hungarian work colleague.

I don't know what The main ingredient is and haven't tasted it yet.

But it does smells nice, like a paint stripper smell , only a tad sweeter.

    I've been told it's about 40%.

Agree with Champion being a great beer. My mate brought some round a few weeks back. When I saw it was 7.3% I was expecting it to be foul, as a lot of beers start tasting rank at the 7%+ region, but I was pleasantly surprised and rather drunk.

    Champion!

My all time favourite beer is the Portuguese tipple, Super Bock.

If somebody ends up seriously bored over the coming weeks then it would be good to have a Champions League of beer:

Round 1: Stella v Carling etc.. With beer lovers voting for who goes through to the next round.

Perhaps I just have far too much time on my hands right now. Mmmm beer....

My favourite for many years has been Courage Directors, but it seems impossible to get now.

Timothy Taylors Landlord, Adnams Broadside are wonderful beers.

For variety? Newcastle Brown, Guinness and Dark Fruit Cider.

Beers for which life is too short to ever drink again? John Smiths, Titley Better, and Carling...

hated the taste of special brew and super (never tried the other two)

The pictures below were snapped in MIlan beside the Cathedral and in one of the most famous malls in the World housing Prada, Armani, Hermes, Valentino, Versace, Gucci and many more.....There were more people outside of the shops taking selfies than in them (one look at the prices in window would tell you why)

Apparently Tennents is 'cool' brand in Italy.....made me smile

Haven't lived in Scotland for many years.

Tennents "Stupor" lager was undrinkable, but Extra was pleasant. And Sweetheart Stout was strange, but nice for a change. Belhaven was good, too.

Always fun to go into a Scots pub, and ask for "a pint of your best bitter, my good man".
Mind you, I could run quick in those days...

Well gotta say I used to love 80 and 90 shilling when I was North of the border.

Courage directors still widely available via Bargain Booze (other off licenses are available)

My hometown Fenton, makes Ran Ales (great selection from session beers to OMG wheres my brain)

Also another town Burslem does the Titanic range (from iceberg @3.8 % to Wreckage at 9%, plus porters and even gins)

In North Wales Purple Moose is very nice and of course if youre over the water the Guinness is amazing.

Can anybody remember the very early 80s and a black lager think it was called Viking also other beers we have loved and lost.
    Brew XI
    Hemmeling
    Hoffmeister
    Ansells
    Double Diamond
    Worthington E
    Youngers Tartan
    Top Hat
    Burton 5 star
    Burton 3 star
    Davenports

Im coming over all misty now.
