Since the start of the year, 802 migrants have arrived on the beaches of Kent and Sussex in flimsy vessels. Another 246 reached the UK in December, including 60 on Christmas Day.
But in October, when Mrs Patel launched the crackdown with her French counterpart, just 58 made it to Britain.
