Your Daily Question, Tuesday April 28th. Internet Service Providers - can they do better?

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 172,011

As some of you may have seen, lots of players had their evening's poker messed up last night by the problems with their ISP (Internet Service Provider). Last night it was Virgin Media who caused the issues, but it could have been any of them I suppose. Last night's was particularly frustrating, as it was hourly, every hour around 15 minutes past the hour.

So rate your ISP out of 10, with 10 for "perfect" & 0 for hopeless.

Also, which ISP do you use, & why? Virgin, Sky, BT, TalkTalk, PlusNet etc?

I've been with Sky for about 3 or 4 years and (touch wood) I'm yet to experience any problems. There was only one incident a while back but that problem was with my router needing a reboot. 9/10.

    Yes 7/10

Every company should be an 8 out of 10 minimum. :hushed:

VM because I love Richard Branson and want to give him lots and lots of money - not.

Simply because it is offering speeds in my area x10 better than the competition.

VM generally very good on speed and uptime, not so good on customer service (but then who is) 7/10.

Never use PlusNet - major security issues and totally screwed me over on a business contract. 0/10.

VM, first issue last night for a very long time - so generally happy. 9/10

Speed consistently between 100 to 110.

Have been with Hyperoptic for a couple of years, have only had good connection and service so far, recommend.

Even if I could access VM, the thought of any of my money going to the criminal RB appalls me so

as and when I live somewhere that can access fibre and get options, it would have to sky or BT

(ps read either of Tom Bower's books on Branson to dispel the myths about RB..)

Sky broadband for us, very happy with them. Just 1 or 2 minor problems over about 8 years.

    9.5/10

Been with VM for a few years until last night had no problems 9/10.
Had a nightmare with Sky would lose connection 4 or 5 times a night the more devices running the more it would drop. Asked to be upgraded to fibre optic broadband and got told that too many people in my area already have it . May have changed now but would never go back to Sky.

I've had Virgin since it took over Smallworld, probably an 8 out of 10, it's expensive, pretty quick at sorting things and customer services has always been okay and they do give you £20 refund if you have problems with the internet ( I can't remember how long it has to be down ).

    VM. 8.5/10.
It's the only way I can get fibre broadband at my address.
Rare problems are usually rectified within a couple of hours.

Several years ago I switched from sky (7mbps) to BT because of the free football channel.
    The worst decision.
Even though nothing changed except my router, it was hopeless.(1 mbps at the good times). Spent hours on the phone to their call centre every week. For a telecommunications company, they were awful.
I'm getting stressed just thinking about it :s
