Who won what, Thursday June 25th

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 171,993

Morning.

More great televised football, & another day of blazing sunshine, so there was only going to be one outcome last night.

4 of the 8 headline MTT's missed Guarantee (including Main & Mini), 2 fell over the line by 1 or 2 entries, & 2 did OK. So I guess it could have been worse, but not much. Remember, MTT's represent less than 20% of total margin, so it's likely that SNG's & the biggie, Cash, are all seeing similar swings & swongs.

It's worth putting some perspective on the numbers though - see the next post.

£1,000 BH £1,000

£8,000 Hitman Main £8,000

£2,500 Hitman Mini £2,500

£1,500 Mega £1,540

£2,500 Sheriff £2,550

£2,000 Turbo £2,000

£1,500 Quickdraw £1,750

£1,500 Mid Ex £1,800

    We need to look from a wider perspective at the amazing journey Online Poker has had this year. In % terms, the rises & falls on Sky Poker in 2020 are probably broadly similar for all Online Poker Sites.

    Online poker margin follows several cycles. Seasonal - winter is of course busy & summer quiet (in the Northern Hemisphere) - then there's a monthly cycle which revolves around the so-called "payday week".

    So let's take a look at the last 6 months of the last Thursday in each month. To keep it simple, I'll just include Hitman Main & Hitman Mini, but they are fairly representative of traffic as a whole I would imagine.

    January 30th;

    Hitman Main £7,080
    Hitman Mini £1,855
    Combined total = £8,935

    February 27th;

    Hitman Main £7,050
    Hitman Mini £1,750
    Combined total = £8,800

    March 26th;

    Hitman Main £19,320
    Hitman Mini £4,700
    Combined total = £24,020

    April 30th;

    Hitman Main £19,400
    Hitman Mini £4,315
    Combined total = £23,715

    May 28th;

    Hitman Main £12,690
    Hitman Mini £3,270
    Combined total = £15,960

    June 25th;

    Hitman Main £8,000
    Hitman Mini £2,500
    Combined total = £10,500

    Note that Hitman Main has ranged between £7,050 & £19,400. That's some range.

    When we bear in mind that January is pretty much the peak month of the year, or nearly so, these numbers are crazy. Even now, mid-summer, a heatwave & great football on TV, the traffic is still busier than it was in January. In fact Guarantees are now higher than they were in January, though how long that will last is anyone's guess.

    What a year 2020 is proving to be one way or another, good & bad.

    £1,000 Bounty Hunter (£1,000)

    The last time the winner was mentioned on this Forum was back in 2017 when Aussie09 was running his Poker Super hero stuff. The winner is low profile, but with over 1,500 MTT's to his name here, he's a hardened Sky Poker veteran.

    splashies ran 5th, while Palace Bloke, who has been under the radar since he won Sheriff on June 5th, squeezed onto the FT. Briefly.

    broad06 has almost no history here, but got the lot last night after winning his seat in a £1.20 Frenzy, & spinning that up to ~£1,440. In doing so, he denied Lord Crush another Main Event win.

    The real eye-opener was The Rt Hon NOSTRI, master of the snap put-down, in 4th. £33 is way above his normal buy-in but he booked his seat via a £7.20 satellite & went on to collect £562, which looks to me to be his best ever result here. Really pleased for him & I fancy there will be plenty more to come.

    In 7th was FITBHITF. I can't behgn to imagine what those initials represent, anyone got any sugggestions?

    The recent run by stocks09 is extraordinary, this was his 4th headline MTT win in 5 nights, & they all came in different events - Quickdraw, Turbo, Midnight Express & now Sheriff. It's unlikely that any other player has ever done that in headline MTT's.

    Very interesting numbers Tikay. You'd have got good odds that June would be busier than January or February if you'd thought to ask me in December.

    @NChanning

    Mr C. Good to see you here.

    I'd have wanted 100/1, minimum.

    It's both fascinating & crazy, isn't it?

    I must say what a great job you did of the Betting Emporium Royal Ascot write ups. It's clear just from reading them that you love doing them. And you managed to keep it "fresh" over the course of 30 odd races, amazing stuff.

    What time did you start each morning - 3am, or earlier?

    I can't recall the exact line, but I really enjoyed the little throwaway gag about when you wore a mask to visit betting shops so you could lump on some good thing - BEFORE COVID was ever heard of.

    Was a bit of a shock to hear Camel had a stroke, but he's busy saying his piece on Twitter again so fingers crossed he'll be OK.

    Hope you & Anne are both well.

    I see your pal Pleno was on Twitter talking about the lockdown and the poker ecology...all interesting stuff. He feels that the country is heading to economic bad times with Corona leading to lots of people losing their jobs and some of the poker sites have gone for a quick cash grab by putting on much bigger and longer tournament series than usual. He reckoned a few weeks ago that players would all go crazy and then burn out by mid-summer. It's hard to know if he was right as the business is very seasonal and may be the drop off we see now is just a weather thing, (it surely is quite a bit due to that, plus people are now more easily able to go out for BBQs and trips to the beach and obv a lot of people are back at work now). Definitely some sites thought very short term...I thought Sky got it right by putting on some bigger events and raising guarantees but not getting too carried away.

    Thanks on the Ascot thing. It was totally exhausting and it's very hard to find new things to say when a lot of my method is fairly systematic. I get my paper delivered by a wholesale company who deal with betting shops and it looks like lots of shops aren't open so the guy shows up at 1.30am instead of 3am so I just got up at 2am every morning! Was flagging a bit by 9pm.

    Spoke to The Camel the other day. He had a mild heart problem and when he was in hospital he fell out of bed. They think this was a small stroke caused by the stress of the situation. He sounds well and has recovered a fair bit.

    We are fine...we're being much more cautious than average...barely been out since Cheltenham. I really missed my trip to Brighton for the SPT but nothing much has changed otherwise.

    @NChanning

    Yes, I read Pleno's views. He's clearly very very good at poker & a bright fella, but his views generally reflect what he & his high roller pals want from poker. At his level, there may very well be big problems ahead, they are all staking each other, being owners or members of stables, & eventually it's all going to end badly at the nosebleed levels imo. I read yesterday that the online WSOP this year will have 22 (TWENTY TWO) flights, & players can enter all 22 if they wish, at $5,000 a pop. If that's true, it's utterly ridiculous to stick the WSOP badge on it.

    For recreationals, I'm very sure that poker will continue as normal. It's a great game loved with a passion by so many people.

    And yes, I think Sky Poker judged it just right, they never went mad, never promoted any new stuff, & just adjusted guarantees in line with demand. Sky Poker is in safe hands & will be around for a very long time yet.

    As to the general economic outlook, well that's got to be grim, but we are where we are & will just have to battle through.

    Ascot write-ups? Yes, I was mindful that it's hard to keep it fresh when you have a system, but I think what helped was the mystery of the draw bias & why jockeys seemed to make such baffling decisions in so many of the races. That was all most odd.

    You must be delighted Camel is on the mend, you two go back a very long way indeed.

    One of our players - markycash - who you may have met in Vegas a few years back had a bad heart attack yesterday, but the good old NHS were superb as usual & it looks like he'll be fine. His do was a carbon copy of mine, which was over 3 years ago, & he's much younger, so I'm confident he'll be OK.

    Take care Neil, xx to Anne & hope to see you soon.
