I seem to remember his style didn't go down very well on Dancing on Ice
Worth listening to when he is talking about horse racing but I find him cringeworthy at best when he is talking to the racegoers especially if there are ladies around. Probably one of the few advantages of there not being any racegoers around at the moment was not having to suffer his "patter" on ITVs Royal Ascot coverage.

Well I'm pleased to say Dancing On Ice was never on my must watch list, but I do agree it's beyond banal when he interviews racegoers. Not so much patter as spew.
I really enjoy his insight & forthright opinions, I just can't stand him being so rude to everyone. Bunch of owners & connections stood in the Paddock & he just bowls up & interrupts them without so much as an excuse me.
Think he sometimes tries to play up to the cameras and be a bit of a fool sometimes....I wonder if like me and many other older race fans he was brought up on John McCririck and has tried to bring a bit of that to the cameras, probably aimed at more non racing fans to try and make it more appealing? Not sure if it works but his racing knowledge is very good, he clearly loves the sport and he is excellent at one on one interviews...the one he did a few years ago for ATR with Pat Eddery was brilliant...have also seen him do great features with the Balding family, Henry Cecil, Cricquette Head to name a few!
Think they've assembled not a bad team on ITV....particularly like Chris Hughes, what an asset he is to reach out to a new audience....Lydia Hislop still my favourite for fronting a show though...think she's brilliant and seems to work really well with Ruby Walsh when they're on together...
Cheers, and good luck all on this weeks comp!
Oh and Tikay...sorry for not replying the other day...been a bit sidetracked these last couple of days...yes I am a Leeds fan, and what a weekend it was!!

Agree with most of your take on Matt Chapman, though I don't watch ITV Racing if I can help it as Ed Chamberlain does my head in.
I've met Lydia Hislop a few times at Neil Channing's BE Cheltenham Preview Nights, she's very good.
Far & away my favourite male presenter on Sky Sports Racing is Robert Cooper, & best of all, male or female, is Hayley Moore, who is Ryan Moore's sister. She speaks such a lot of sense. You won't ever see Matt Chapman doing this, either.....

Chappers? It took a while but I now like his crass, almost abusive, insightful opinions .. guilty pleasure.
