He went down in my estimation that time he didnt do a maximum due to the prize money not being enough. Really? He could have donated the money to a local snooker club or charity. Bordering on too arrogant for his own good.
He will also want to move into commentary when he does fold his cue away for good. His attitude to other players/the game in general leaves a lot to be desired at times. However, the TV companies (probably Eurosport), will snap him up.
Saying all that though, I still love to watch him play. Would also like Williams to progress in their match.
PS....my 66/1 shot (Kurt Maflin) still in with a good shout.
I'm not sure I've ever seen a better example of a chip on a shoulder. He should be trying to help grassroots if he thinks there's a problem there. That said, if his goal is just to cause a bit of fuss, make headlines, and get more people watching snooker then he's probably doing a good job.

The BBC would snap him up never mind Eurosport. He is only telling it how it is and he is right imo.
If you're an up and coming young player then you can either spit your dummy out or do everything you can to prove him wrong. Roy Keane has said far worse about fellow footballers and his punditry is a breath of fresh air.
I don’t think Ronnie was saying that a new young player could never win, so Ken’s point doesn’t really prove anything. It’s like people debunking that men are stronger than women by telling you about someone they know. Which funnily enough seems to happen all the time these days. Only lived experience counts, not objective reality.
Really it’s a stupid question and should be treated as such. He’s the best player ever to have picked up a cue. Why wouldn’t he expect to still be around with some of the other crushers?

Understand the Roy Keane comparison with the two saying what's on their mind.
The issue I have with Ronnie is he is whinger and an attention-seeker. He was talking about health and safety at the World Championships before it started. That seemed, to me at least, to get attention rather than him having any real concerns.
He played regardless and doesn't need the money (his words) so was not that much of an issue for him.
I used to enjoy his interviews, it follows a similar theme of course. He is actually quite the bore now and takes a lot of the attention away from the other players.
Secondly, he has natural talent. Roy Keane I would suggest was not a natural footballer and had to graft that bit harder to achieve what he did. He is also not a whinger
It's easy for Ronnie to say the younger generation are not very good however it's a bit cheap when he is so gifted at the game. He does not have an equal when he is on par and I do still enjoy watching him play.
Agreed on your point in proving him wrong. It could also be his way of egging fellow players on to better themselves. Anger can be a good motivator.

Said without the slightest hint of irony. Baffling.
As someone who had zero interest in snooker growing up, I knew fine well who Ronnie O'Sullivan was. Characters like that, who pretty much transcend the sport, are invaluable. Assuming these comments are from snooker fans, it's pretty confusing to see people saying he should be doing more to give back to the sport. From a neutral point of view, having Ronnie read off an autocue and silently pot the black for his 147 and donate it to charity isn't "doing more" for the sport.

Guys trying to make a hard living and the former top player comes out with that!
Find it very hard to root for him now. Won't be in the future.

Yes, I'm with @waller02 there. I'm a huge Ronnie fanboy, only Alex Higgins gave me as much excitement to watch.
It will be interesting to see what happens when a youngster beats him though.
