Death Valley has hit the, unverified as yet, highest temperate ever recorded on earth.
I sometimes have nightmares about the face of a Chinese man we drove past whose car had broken down right in the middle of Death Valley. He and his large family were looking at the engine, and me as we drove past, in sheer terror. My gf said 'shall we stop'. I replied 'better not, I'm pale'. Still see his face from time to time and my stomach sinks.

We visited Furnace Creek (so well-named) a few years ago. It's impossible to describe the heat there. I can't begin to imagine being stranded out there.
