Hi all.
As the title suggests this isn't a challenge diary as such as I thought I'd depart from the usual setting of any kind of specific challenge. Instead I thought I'd keep a daily log of the DYM's and tournaments that I've played.
I've been trying cash on here for the last few months but I've found it's just not for me. I've had a few good results and some pretty shocking bad beats, but then haven't we all so I won't bore you with those, and my bankroll has taken a bit of a hit. Needless to say I've decided to revert back to what I'm most comfortable playing, DYM's and tournaments.
Bankroll management has always played a big factor in my mindset and how I approach the game. For that reason (and being too tight to reload my account lol) I'll be starting of at the £0.28 DYM's and the early evening freerolls. I intend to play at least 25 DYM's a day but I won't be moving up to the £0.55 DYM's until I've hit the 100 buy in mark and will use the same rule before progressing to the £1.10 level etc. If I fall below 75 buy ins at any stage then I'll relegate myself back down to the previous by in level.
I'll start with yesterday's stats (not got any fancy spreadsheats so bear with me.)

GL with this bud.
I think 100 BI's is a bit over cautious for DYM's, given that they are relatively low variance, but best to go with what you are comfortable with.
(I presume you won your seat?)
GL with this
I've had a look at some BR management sites and the consensus for STT's seems to be around 67 buy ins. That being the case I've readjusted my requirements down from 100 buy ins to 75. A figure more inline with current thinking but still giving myself a comfort buffer. I've also adjusted down the "relegation" requirements to 50 buy ins to tie in with the revised figure.
@MP33 I should have made it clearer that the Goldrush tourny was in fact the satellite. Yes it will be nice to scoop a big prize from one of those.
I'll be adding today's results just as soon as I've finished the last tourny of the day.
I've done a bit more of a breakdown of the results. Probably more relevant if they where standard SnG's but, if you're a geek like me, interesting none the less.
1st - 3rd = 58%
4th = 22%
5th - 6th = 20%
I can already see that I need to convert more of those 4th places into the money positions by perhaps playing more aggressively on the bubble.
good luck with this i'm sure you will be playing the £3 and £5 by the end of the year
Faired a little better in the free roll tournaments cashing in 2 and hitting my first final table ever in Omaha!
Opnening Balance £30.20 Closing Balance £32.02 Profit £1.80
So here are today's scores:
DYM's

P/L -£1.50
MTT's
Sunday Major 3 Seat Fr 49th £0.00

Omaha Free Roll 5th £1.32
Any day that you're in profit is a good day as far as I'm concerned, even if it's just £1.80 like you grinded out today.
Just finished for the day and the DYM's have been a bit grim not helped by 8 4th place finishes!
Morning Rinky.I don't want to teach you to suck eggs, but in DYM's it's almost all about how we play with 4 players left. Yes, we need to be sensible & try to build a stack when 5 or 6 handed, but to my mind, the real skill in DYM's is when there are 4 players left. Hopefully a skilled DYM player will pop in later & give some views on that.
GL mate.
3 of the 8 I had better than 50% equity:
1) Blinds 400/800
I'm in the BB with 50 left behind and pick up Qs2s
SB raises all in (covering me) but just about above average hand, could be a squeeze play and I can't fold for 80 chips so I make a crying call for my remaining chips. SB turns over 8c7h.
Flop Ac Kc 3d Turn 3c River 6c giving the villain a fluch on the river. Ouch!
2) I'm all in in the BB with 3d 3s
SB raises all in to isolate and turns over A 6s
Flop 9h 10s 4h Turn 6h River Jh
3) Blinds are 300/600 I'm in the BB with 160 chips behind and pick up Ah 2h
It's folded round to the SB who limps making up the BB so I shove all in for the remaining 160 and get called. SB turns over Kh Qd
Flop 5c 8c 7s Turn 2c River Kd
Giving SB a pair of kings. Another ouch!
I won't bore you with the coolers but instead will just list them.
1) Ah Qh v Ac Ks
2) Ad 10c v 6d 6c
3) Ah 6d v As 8s The other 2 4th places where down to me letting myself blind away and not shoving or putting pressure on the blinds from the button when I was sufficiently chipped up to apply pressure.
I hope that is a bit more insightful than just giving the raw stats and I can include it in future if people would find it informative.
Looking at the times it seems the evening sessions may bear more fruit as the players are a bit on the wilder side and seem intent on knocking each other out. Always nice to have someone else do the work for you lol.
I did have a couple of mental games. One of these saw myself and the remaining 3 players thrashing it out for an absolute age until it became a battle of the blinds type scenario. Unusually I'm going to include a 6th place finish purely because of how mad the runout was.
So today's stats are as follows:
Opening Balance £32.02 Closing Balance £32.92 Profit £0.90
DYM's
Played 20 Cashed 13 Lost 7
1st - 3rd =13
4th = 4
5th - 6th = 3
P/L = £0.90
MTT's
Sunday Major 3 Seat FR 60th £0.00
£1000 Rewards FR 313th £0.00
One of the 4th places was as I've said a bit of a luckfest so I've left it out.
1) Blinds 100/200 My stack 347.5 in the BB
Dealt Ks Jd Button raises, SB folds I call of my remaining chips.
Button shows Js 10d so I dominate and have 71% chance.
Flop 4s 10c Qh still at 41% so not that bad considering.
Turn 3s and down to 25%
River 2s out sees me out.
2) Blinds 500/1000 my stack 420 Kd Jh on the button and I shove as getting good equity against the blinds and could see a potential triple up.
SB folds, BB turns over Ah 5H AGHHHHH!
Flop goes from bad to worse with a runout of Ac As 8h and the hand and tournament over.
3) Blinds 100/200 my stack is at 612.5 on the button which has been folded round to me so I shove all in with Ad 5h.
SB folds, BB calls and turns over 2d 2s. That's ok as it's basically a 50/50. Still kinda sucky how it is yet another race though given the blinds could have any 2 random cards.
Flop comes 8d 7d 7h and puts me at 44% but with a backdoor flush and the 2 overs not feeling so bad.
Then the turn and yes, it was 2c and produced an audible cry of OH FFS! lol
The mad as **** 6th place goes as follows:
Pretty much the first hand of the game. The action folds round to the button who limps. I look down at 3h 6h and think why not? So I make up the BB for a cheaky look at a flop hoping to hit a mickey mouse flop and boy oh boy do I hit it!
Flop comes 3d 8c 3s YAY! This gets checked around. I was kinda hoping for a shove or bet but didn't want to loose any customers hence the check.
The turn comes a 5c and it then gets much better! The BB leads out for 150 chips, the button folds and I naturally raise to 300. Unbelievably the BB doesn't flat call, oh no, he goes postal and shoves all in! HAPPY DAYS and I couldn't get my chips in quick enough.
The cards go on their backs and for once I'm not faced with the 88 that flashed through my mind as I shoved my chips in the middle to give the BB a full house. No, this time he turns over a sweet looking 3c 2s.
Then the river of heartbreak that I've come to know far to well of late decides to spew out a 2h to give the BB a G**D**m full house! And so eminated yet another cry of FFS NOOOOOO! and a kick for the dog lol
I'm joking about the dog btw, German Shepherd and I'm not going to take my chances with it no matter how frustrated I feel lol.

Managed to get in 20 DYM's but not any freerolls and here are the results. A dearth of 4th places again with a truncated blow by blow account of them.

4th place horror show details below lol. (My hand is the one on the left of the v)

2) Ac 10 v QQ

From what I can see so far my plays have been pretty much bang on so not really concerned that I'm doing anything wrong other than maybe waiting a little too long to pick up hands. Given the nature of these DYM's though it does seem to pretty much turn into a shove or fold type of game. As long as I see that I'm getting it all in good pre flop then variance should eventually swing those outdraws to my favour.
Even the coolers are prety much correct play and I can handle those far better than some of the outdraws. That said I'm also well aware that it's a good thing if players are calling off their stacks with some of the junk you can see above.
Good stuff Rinky, keep it going. Sounds like you are enjoying it.
I've not had much tim to play this week so thought I'd wait until I got 50 games under my belt before posting the results. Again a dearth of 4th places is pretty much still killing me although after a bit of analysis I still can't see much wrong with the hands I shove with. Still getting it in good for the most part.
Anyway, here are the results for the last 50 DYM's
Played 50, Cashed 25 Lost 25
1-3 = 25
4th = 12
5/6th = 13
Profit / Loss -£1.00
MTT's (no need to bore everyone with the £0.00 cashes)
£1000 Rewards FR 108th £2.00
Omaha £20 GTD FR 20th £0.22
Closing Balance for the last 50 including the FR's stood at £36.63 Slow going but still on an upward trajectory, even if it is at a snails pace lol.
I think I prefer posting in batches of 50, easier to read and I don't want to a) spam the board daily and b) bore the mams off everyone so might be a few days before the next post. My personal target for any given week is getting the £2.30 tourny ticket on top of the £1000 freeroll tickets which I'll hopefully get by Saturday.
Good luck keep it up.
Thankfully that little run bought me back to about even.
Right, without further ado here are the results for the last 50 DYM's and MTT's
Opening Balance £36.63 Closing Balance £37.60 P/L +£0.97
DYM's Played 50 Cashed 24 Lost 26
1-3rd = 24
4th = 18
5-6th = 8
Profit / Loss -£2.00
MTT's weren't much better this week although I did manage 2 £1.00 cashes in the Rewards freerolls a £0.22 cash in the Omaha freeroll and picked up a £0.75 bounty in the £2.20 Hunter Hunter that I entered thanks to the £2.30 ticket for hitting the reward threshold.
All in all a bit of a nightmare week that saw me only add £0.97 to my bankroll, but hey, it's better than a smack in the face with a cold fish lol.
I'm also getting to grips with being far more agressive when it comes to playing 4 handed so with a bit of luck all those 4th places will soon be converted to wins.
Overall I found it enjoyable if not frustrating at times but in the 3 weeks I've been doing it I've learnt a fair bit and I've increased my bankroll to £41.40 playing just the £0.28 DYM's and the freerolls. Small change I know but profit is profit as they say.
So my closing Balance is £41.40 which has given me a profit of £15.70 which is roughly a 61% ROI (assuming my maths is correct lol) and I'll take that any day of the week!
