The former England defender and Strictly contestant, 35, (left) will reportedly meet with TV bosses in October about the opportunity after impressing them during her previous appearances on the show (inset in November 2016). It comes after it was revealed that Sue Barker, 64, was axed as host of the series after 24 years alongside the team captains Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell (pictured together right). A source said: 'Like Sue, she's [Alex] a former sportswoman and she also has five years of broadcasting under her belt. This has nothing to do with gender, nor is it a case of the BBC trying to be woke.'

Not watched a lot of the show however Sue Barker is a good presenter, liked her coverage on the tennis. A bit of an refresh like the Soccer Saturday show.
