He has totally lost his mind.
Firstly, most leaders are perfectly happy to let others run risks for their own vision of greatness.
Secondly, that "immunity" will be the start of his campaign. He will say he's had it, he's survived, he's unlikely to get it again, unlike his opponent.
Sensible? Of course not. But most politicians would do the same in his shoes.
