Shorter sentencesThe Times reports that paedophiles, burglars and drug dealers are among the criminals who've received shorter sentences since judges began taking into account the harsher regime in prisons during the pandemic.
The virus has led to some prisoners being locked in their cells for weeks, without showers or exercise, and some have had visits from family banned.
The paper says a sex offender caught grooming an under-age girl online and a man who assaulted his former partner have had their sentences cut.
The Victims' Commissioner, Dame Vera Baird, warns there's a danger that "Covid expediency is taking precedence over justice".
