Football "experts"

At the start of this season, the BBC asked 30 experts to name their top 4 in the Premier League. In what is supposed to be the most open league of the major leagues.

30 went for Liverpool. 30 for Man City. 29 for Chelsea. 28 for Man Utd. And just 3 went for Arsenal.

0 votes for Tottenham, For Everton. For Leicester. For Wolves. For anyone.

Now, I'm not saying that those 1st 4 teams are not the favourites for top 4. But 117 votes out of 120. Really? Would anyone confidently say that there is over 97% probability that that is the top 4?

It is surprising they're that extreme but L'pool and Man Utd are shoo-ins.

If you look at Chelsea last year and then add Ziyech, Werner, Havertz, Chilwell and Thiago Silva you are going to think they'll improve more than others so 29 experts picking them seems close to reasonable.

Man Utd is the only one I'd say seems a bit over the top. They did finish the season very strong.

I suppose experts just like to get it right rather than look at what might be value, unless they're betting experts, and those 4 teams were all the favourites to get top 4 so in terms of being right as an expert at the end of the season they all take the safe option.

At the beginning of the season Liverpool and Man City were the only two near certainties, the other places were up for grabs between any 2 from a possible 6 or maybe 7 teams. The 'Experts' are still living in the Man Utd of Ferguson's era but that ended 7 years ago.

No shoo-ins, but I agree it would take a brave man not to include Liverpool or Man city in the top 4. The other 2? not so much.

Chelsea have an inexperienced Manager. Who has not yet won anything of note. Who failed to get Derby promoted, despite having way more resources than Cocu. Yes, they've spent lots-but only Chilwell has Premier League experience. Look at goalkeeper, best centre half, best forward-I see plenty of sides with better. Can see the majority going for them-but 29? Madness.

Then Man Utd. Again, a Manager both inexperienced and never won anything significant as a Manager (contrast with Mourinho, Ancelotti, Espirito Santo). Significant additions? Not looking great. Best defence? No idea. Their is no pair of centre halves emerging. Out and out goalscorer? None. Midfield looks great when got the ball, but first choice midfielders don't seem to want to get the ball. Unless you count Mata/Matic/McTominay/Fred, who wouldn't get near the 1st team of any team in the top half.

28 votes for Man Utd. More than 9x the total for Arsenal/Tottenham/Everton et al. Not very expert.

Firstly, I’d like to know if the BBC paid those “ experts” out of my license fee.
I had to google the the definition of “ expert”, just to be sure.
Yep, it came back as chancers, milkers or ponces.

Maybe the experts have just picked the 4 teams with the most fan-boys to try and keep everyone happy.

Don't watch that much EPL but I saw the games on Sunday. How anyone can say Man U or Liverpool are certain top 4 after those performances is beyond me. Man U are just no good and will be well off top 4. If Liverpool were to lose Allison or Virgil for any length of time they would really struggle. Man City I think are past their best. They look far from the team that had likes of Aguerro, Silva and Kompany playing in their primes. Chelsea I have taken some real gambles this summer. The two Germans will be flops and Silva is defo way way past his best.

I would say the most improved improved squads belong to Arsenal, Spurs and Everton. Atleast 2 of those 3 teams will make top 4 along with City and Liverpool I reckon.

The “ exciting “ part is how the season unfolds, always has been.
Who cares what an “ expert” says,or a pundit. It’s all irrelevant.
In theory the experts should be the managers.

Talk of money, money, money ,in your face all the time.
Does a supporter really care how much a player cost their team?

Maybe get rid of shirt numbers, replace those with the players price tag.
    You’re sh it ahhhhhhh.

    Stay Alert. Bubble may pop.
