How can situations like this still continue in this day and age,no doubt this is only the tip of the iceberg and there are thousands of older vulnerable people suffering the same fate day in day out. Gas companies cutting vulnerable peoples supply, scum people taking advantage, thank **** that there are still some decent people around to help those in need.

What an amazing tale of kindness in the face of something truly horrible! Story and images courtesy of Essex Police - Colchester District and a special mention here for GO4 Cafe- Recreation Ground .

PC Noone and PC Hammond from Colchester CPT received a complaint about a potential Covid breach on Remembrance Day, and attended a property in Colchester.

However what they found was totally unexpected and prompted PC Noone into taking positive community action.
The male living in the property was a poorly war veteran, who has 18 years of service for his country. His bank account had been closed that day due to others taking advantage of his kind nature and had stolen monies from his account.
The gentleman, who is suffering Parkinson’s Disease, PTSD and other ailments, has to rely on a friend to help him when she can.
The caring officers spoke to him for some time and discovered he had no food or drink in the fridge or cupboards, and only had a plate of sausage and mash leftovers, that had been made for him the day before.
With no family to support him, PC Noone completed an urgent referral to partner agencies to seek the help he needs and deserves, and thankfully this was picked up the next day and social services are now in contact with the male and assessing his needs.
The fraud from his bank account is also being investigated by Colchester Police, and the male is now in touch with Project Nova who assist war veterans.
Whilst waiting for social services to assess the male, PC Noone, with the assistance of PC Mond (also from CPT) attended the Cafe on the Rec, who provide food and supplies to vulnerable persons and families, and they kindly donated a number of food items to make up a food parcel for the war veteran.
Later that evening, PC Noone and PC Gammans, delivered the food parcel to the delighted and very surprised male.
PC Noone was saddened to see the war veteran had switched on all the rings on his cooker hob, in an attempt to warm his flat, due to his gas supply being switched off.
However PC Noone said the look on his face when he saw some jacket potatoes and a cooked chicken being delivered will stay with him forever, and sends a message to all that your Community Policing Team are not just here to deal with crimes, but also to protect and assist the more vulnerable members of Colchester.
This shows the support we can give others in time of need and that as a community there are plenty of people out there who still care.
