Two of the first people set to receive the coronavirus vaccine later today, Ranjan and Hari Shukla, are pictured on the front of the Times.

The couple are in their eighties, and Dr Hari Shukla said he was delighted to be "doing my bit" by having the jab. They'll receive it at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle - one of 50 hospital vaccination "hubs" in England.

The Guardian's front page says a mix-and-match coronavirus vaccine is to be tested for potency. It reports that a trial, scheduled for January, will examine whether one dose of the Pfizer vaccine and one of the Oxford vaccine can give better protection than two doses of the same product.

The Pfizer vaccine generates a bigger antibody response, while the Oxford vaccine produces more T-cells - a different type of immunity.

"You ideally want to have both," the chair of the government's vaccine taskforce, Kate Bingham, is quoted as saying in the Sun. She insists the study has nothing to do with the fact the UK's ordered 100-million doses of the Oxford vaccine, and only 40-million doses of Pfizer's.

A 90-year-old woman has become the first person to be given a Covid jab as part of the mass vaccination programme being rolled out across the UK.

Margaret Keenan, who turns 91 next week, said it was the "best early birthday present".

She was given the injection at 06:31 GMT - the first of 800,000 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine that will be given in the coming weeks.

Up to four million more are expected by the end of the month.

Imagine the fallout if the lady was to become ill or worse with a non related issue,I think the internet would explode.

She seemed far less excited than Sky News.

There is a celebratory mood in Wednesday's newspapers, with many front pages carrying pictures of 90-year-old Margaret Keenan being clapped by hospital staff after becoming the first person in the world to receive the newly-approved Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine.

"One small jab for Maggie, one giant leap for all of us" is the headline in the Daily Express.

The paper says Ms Keenan set a splendid example for us all to follow and the paper is optimistic that "this epic vaccine programme will win us back the life we all want to lead".

"Heroes" is how the Daily Mail describes the first people to receive the jab - many of them elderly.

The paper says they've made Britain proud and is confident that "this vaccine is the key to setting Britain free from its Covid chains".

For the Daily Star, the start of the vaccine rollout brings "new hope", while the Daily Mirror says "let us rejoice that help is on its way". But the Mirror sounds a note of caution with its headline: "One down, 54 million to go".

The Financial Times is more cautious, pointing out that big logistical challenges remain.

And the Daily Telegraph also puts a bit of a dampener on any feelings of optimism, with a warning from the government's chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance. He says we might have to wear masks for another year because of a lack of evidence that vaccines prevent transmission.

A croak, a cough, then hot tears of joy... Matt Hancock didn't just milk it - he wrung every last drop: HENRY DEEDES watches the Health Secretary weep on live TV

HENRY DEEDES: Gwyneth at the 1999 Oscars. Gazza at Italia 90. To that list of lip- wobbling blubberers, we can now add the name of Matthew Hancock (pictured). With the arrival of the coronavirus vaccine, the Health Secretary was on Good Morning Britain (inset) yesterday to witness the first inoculations take place live on air. Of course he was! Mr Hancock, as we know, does not so much milk moments such as these as wring them of every last droplet. Remember his performance at that Downing Street press conference in May when he hit his 100,000-tests-a-day target? It was like witnessing an ageing ham take his final curtain call.

The Daily Telegraph says schools in England could be sued by ministers if they close early for Christmas to reduce the spread of coronavirus among students.

It says one school in Hertfordshire has already reversed a plan to switch to online learning for the final days of term, after it was threatened with legal action - but says an academy trust in London still plans to stop early.

    'Cancel Christmas plans'
Elsewhere, Scientists tell the Guardian people should rethink any plans to get together over Christmas, because of fears about rising coronavirus case numbers.

The paper says there are signs infections are increasing again, after falling in November, and that hospitalisations are on the rise in some parts of the country. One professor argues that "if people really want to keep their loved ones safe, the best thing is not to see them."

Dozens of GPs opt out of Pfizer vaccine rollout next week forcing 100,000 patients to get their jabs elsewhere due to 'concerns over heavy workloads'

Around 100,000 Britons will have to go elsewhere for their Covid-19 inoculations as the second stage of the UK's mass vaccination programme begins in GP practices.

TikTok deletes anti-vax video after it is criticised in parliamentary hearing

TikTok scrambled to delete a video featuring anti-vaccination disinformation during a parliamentary hearing on Thursday, after an MP cited it as evidence the platform was not doing to enough to tackle such claims.

The video features a woman called Olivia Madison - an American influencer who describes herself as "pro life, pro guns, pro Trump" - and has more than 38,000 followers and over 600,000 likes on the platform.

In the video Ms Madison falsely claimed: "Vaccinations contain aborted foetus parts and pig parts. So can you really judge me on being anti-vax? Like I don't believe in injecting a baby with another baby."
