Hmmmm tough one Seems though everything with white in front of it is deemed to be racist A certain mr hellmuth refers to his reading skills as white majic Should he stop using this term??? Personally I would leave his alias alone and leave the snowflakes and PLC brigade to determine as they wish I mean for all we know the guys name could be John White
In this day and age, people are quick to jump over anything and try and make an issue. I doubt highly the user is some far right Neo Nazi, just an alias they have thought up to use.
I do remember Dan Cates having to change his name back on Full Tilt from "Ihatejuice" as again, certain people thought he was having a sly dig using word play, but hey, maybe he didn't like juice, I certainly don't like the stuff with bits in.
It is a nonsense to claim everything with white in front of it is racist. There used to be stuff written in the press many years ago about blackboards. Now my kids use whiteboards at school without ever worrying about racism. Neither was ever racist, and I never saw any need to change the name of either.
Where putting black or white in front of a word has as an implication that one "race" is superior or inferior to the other then it is best avoided. For instance, black power is controversial too, and probably best avoided. I don't think black lives matter falls into this, because it is pretty clear that it is just short hand for black lives matter too, and not that black lives matter more.
Merry Christmas all, if that isn't too controversial
As a virtue signalling SJW I would demand he changed his screen name but deep down, not care that much.
If it is something race related, we can all just agree he's a **** and move on. If it's not race related, it's just unfortunate that many people will misinterpret it.
these days we complain about anything. that user name might look racist to some but I'd be more angered at all the people who give so much abuse on the chat. I can see some people who will even claim blackbird is racism and I have some things named black.... changed.
Not everything with the preface white is racist and to imply so just plays into the racists hands. If their name was WhiteTiger or WhiteLilly for example, do you think this thread would of been created?
White magic has non racist roots going back centuries as the opposite to black magic. Whether, in the current climate, it still is, is a question above my paygrade. Calling something that is seen to be good white and something that is seen to be bad black does sound a bit dodgy though.
The user may not be a far right neo Nazi. However, they are using a term that is synonymous with them. As the vast majority of us can say why they came up with their user name, it would be interesting to see why this person came up with this one.
No one has ever seriously tried to claim that blackbird is racist, assuming you are talking about the feathered creature of course.
If someone kept typing WhitePower into the chatbox every time they won a hand, how quickly do you think they would be on a chatban? Especially if a PoC was on the table.
If WhitePower is ok to use, Could I please change my name to IloveAdolf please. After my uncle Adolf from my Dads Austrian side. Or IhateBlacky please because I was bullied at school by someone called Blacky. Or could I change it to the name of the dog in the Biggles books please.
Language moves on. What was once acceptable isn't now. So it has always been and so it will continue.
From a site management point-of-view, I'd change it immediately to eliminate the possibility of bad PR, and thank the person who brought it to my attention.
From a poker-playing point-of-view, user names like this serve as free donk-alert - anyone with anything sexist, sexually aggressive, racist, ablist etc. in their name are almost always loose-aggressive. Plus when you knock them out, there's an added satisfaction.
Anyway I'm sure there's a home for him at GG Poker if he objects.
Did the Grand Wizards change their name when it was pointed to them?
If someone pointed out to white power that neo **** like to chant that at rallies and some people are going to assume he is a particularly nasty racist, wouldn't a normal person be happy to change? If he/she is just starting the rest of us aren't losing much from losing notes info on him/her. It isn't just here, I have seen some pretty unbelievable names elsewhere.

I'd just quietly tell whitepower to change his name.
