Corporate affairs boss at Welsh-based fast food giant Iceland is SACKED from £102,000-a-year job after calling nation's language 'gibberish' and saying it sounds 'like bad catarrh'

Iceland's corporate affairs boss Keith Hann (right) has been sacked by the supermarket chain after saying Welsh sounded 'like someone with bad catarrh clearing his throat' in a now-deleted personal blog post which recently resurfaced on Twitter. Outrage began when father-of-two Mr Hann said 'inhabitants of the UK's Celtic fringe loathe all visitors' - referring to people travelling to Wales - in a tweet which has since been deleted. The supermarket insisted that his statements do not 'reflect' the company's views. Iceland's headquarters, where Mr Hann works, is situated in Deeside in Wales - but he lives in Cheshire, just two miles over the Welsh border in England.

Having spent vast amounts of time in Wales and owning a caravan there. I can only speak from experience and have always been made to feel welcome.

Yes there are occasional idiots and areas that are not particularly well disposed to the English, but these are the exception and certainly not the norm. It's about having and showing respect for local people and business.

Welsh people have an incredible heritage and a fascinating history that they are only too happy to discuss with anybody who shows an interest.

It's the superior attitude and arrogance of visitors that usually provokes a negative reaction.

    Couldnt disagree with that.
