Father-of-three, 69, spends 30 years transforming his 8,000 square foot suburban Yorkshire garden into an incredible 'jungle' with 100-foot palm trees https://video.dailymail.co.uk/preview/mol/2021/02/22/6791623394029815569/636x382_MP4_6791623394029815569.mp4Dr Simon Olpin, 69, (top left) has turned the garden at his home in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, into a jungle with more than 100 species of plants and 100ft palm trees. Since moving to the city in 1987 from Cambridge, he has been building up a collection of plants from around the world after his fear of flying has stopped him from seeing them natively. He bought his first small pot at a university fair and planted it in his garden (right from aerial view) which he described as a 'blank canvas'. It has since expanded tremendously and has even made its way to the front of his semi-detached house (inset). Dr Olpin's 'jungle' has featured more than 30 species of bamboo, three species of palm, four species of eucalyptus, and hundreds of other trees, shrubs, and plants (bottom).
