What I learned playing a £33 main

Hi there folks,

Well thanks to @Essexphil I got to play a main event and chose Tuesdays Gold Rush.

I don't know what I was expecting play wise but in many ways I found it no more difficult to negotiate than a £2.20 bounty hunter.

I think I was expecting to find all manner of mystical bet sizing, unfathomable moves and a general sense of being Little lord Fauntleroy suddenly front and centre facing down Tyson Fury, but actually it was really a nice atmosphere and quite laid back.

Now that's not to say that it was easier, it wasn't, but the play seemed more disciplined, less manic and there seemed to be more to gain by showing a little circumspection.

The main difference seemed to be that the players had a reason for doing what they did whereas in micro / low stakes it seems plays are often made without any real plan. This didn't make the game simple but I actually found it more comfortable than many low stakes games which seem to be played almost any A is a shove and any 2 is a call.

It was a very enjoyable experience and something that I would recommend that all micro mtt players do every once in a while if only to try and utilise what you learn and take it back to the micros.

Just for the record I busted 88th getting royaly outdrawn on the river but I managed to take a bounty which I subsequently donated to cancer research UK and so everybody gained thanks to one mans generosity.

The charity gained more funds, I gained a great experience and the donor hopefully gained a fuzzy warm feeling.

Oh well back to the micro madness.

Mark
